A bit later this year I 'm thinking of buying something (RWD of course and preferably coupe)

The two I like at the moment are the...

1983-85 Toyota AE86 Sprinter Levin (Aus Spec)
1.6 Litre Inline Four
78bhp

Pretty gutless but would swallow a 4A-GZE conversion.

or

1984-86 Toyota Celica XT 2.0 RA65 Liftback
2.0 Litre Inline Four
HP unsure

The good thing about the Celica is that it would take a 1G-GTE 210hp conversion witha 5 speed manual.

The celica is more practical, tell me what you believe the pros and cons to be of each car and which you think would be better.

Here is a Photoshopped Celica XT with Sprinter GT-Apex inspiration and 17" Rims (This is what I'd like)

3rd gen celicas are ugly. 4th gen isnt much better either. What kind of engine did the aus sprinter get? The SR-5? Because if its not thats some tercel strength right there hehe.

3rd Gen (1982-1985)
4th Gen (1986-1989)

the celica is just a big tureno.
i do have a mate with a 2.0 TT (1GTTE or something of that nature) engine sitting under his bonnet and it is QUICK.

That pic of the Celica reminded me of one my dad bought, looks a lot like it except for the wheels. Heh, in retrospect it was that Celica that made me fall for the AE86.
So I'll say 'Sprinter'.

I'd have to fall under the sprinter on this one... I like the Celica (not really that year) but others are FWD and that sucks.

A 1.6 litre (4-AC) SOHC carby inline four with 78hp and 8v

Whereas I belive the Celica has a 2.0 litre (21-RC) SOHC 8v Carby engine with 90hp with either a 5 speed manual or 3 speed auto

yeah ok true, most are in **** condition. one of my mates has just done one up

naw sorry, its nice. but not that great, he just cleaned it up gave it some new paint and installed a 4AGE replacing the aussie spec motor

No Kidding, I was wondering if you knew him, when you said he had the 1G-GTE i thought that thats what i had seen. I was looking up 1G's to see if they would fit in a sprinter when i found the celica though I fell for that. Tell him he's inspired me to find an XT. After this I have decided to get an XT.

PS that celica up the top with the AE86 paintjob is his too.

I like to get an Mk2 Supra Celica. Drop in a built 2JZ-GTE engine and a beefed up 6 speed transmission. Make it look stock/sleeper. The only thing that would give it away not being stock. Would be the beefed up suspension components, 14 inch big brakes, and 18 inch rims/tires.

GO THE AE86!!! thats what i want but theyre hard to find in Australia and will be even harder when i can drive.

Go for the Celica, you'll get more hp opportunities, and also you could fit more shizzle in it. :D That, and they are charging a lot more for AE86's ever since the whole drifting idea became a fad.
