As most of you know, CFM is our new WRS organizer. Just to bring him "into the family" I decided to create a race to honor his favorite car . I talked with him and he chose La Sarthe as the track of choice. Let's all welcome him here with some friendly racing 👍.

The Car: Jaguar XJR9 Race Car

The Track: La Sarthe Circuit II

Tuning: Power +20%/Weight -10%/Any Tires/Top Speed Adjustable

Arcade Mode: Free Run

Save best lap ghost.

General OLR rules apply, 2 tires on track at all times, no wall touches.

T-times and final times may be discussed in the thread. There will be an open leaderboard

I do not know La Sarthe at all, yet, therefore this seems a good way to start learning the circuit.

Thanks for the spot race iceman. Here's my best lap after an hour or so:

There is one curb where I think I may have had a third wheel off for just a second, but I can't seem to get a good angle to catch it, it's very hard without the slow motion replay analyzer that GT3 had. So I'll re-run it when I get a chance, though it may be a few days. Maybe I'll have one last crack today before I shut down the PS2, and luck will be with me.

Edit: I've got a clean one now as far as I can tell, I'm close on the second to last curb, but i think I managed to stay on the green strip.

But for future reference, if I might give you a suggestion, if you ever end up in a spot where you would like to check if your (or anybody else's) lap is clean, what you do is run the Replay, hit Select when you are at the spot you want to check, and this will bring Photomode up.

There you will have a nice still frame to work with and you can change quite a lot of camera angles (up to 64, I think?), going completely around the vehicle. You can also zoom to your liking.

The only thing that sucks about the photomode trick is that's it's really hard to catch the exact spot you want. If you miss, you basically have to restart the whole replay because you can't hit select 2 times fast enough to just move the car a tiny bit. I've already been trying this, but it's hard to catch a split second off at 100 MPH 2 1/2 minutes into your lap, if you know what I mean.

I know what you mean, CFM. What I usually do in this case is this:

I watch the Replay from top external view (either one, the lower level or the higher one, doesn't really matter) and then I hit Select as soon as the car enters the "key spot" (which, with the delaying factor, should stop it quite close to the spot that I want to analyze).

Then usually I just use Photomode as described and if I didn't manage to stop it quite right on the spot, I project the line, looking at the tire angle and the overall position of the car and try to discover if, from that position, with that angle, it would be possible to end up completely off track or not.

Then I run the Replay again (you know you can fast forward it, right? Using R3), and this time I try to stop it later than I did the time before (or earlier, depending if the previous time I overshot the spot or came close to it but not reached it), and repeat the process.

I think this method is way better than it was in GT3. In GT3 you could not pause the Replay at all, much less looking at the car from "x" many different angles.

It takes some practice, but it works.

In GT3 there was slowmotion in the data logger.
Speed drops where easy to see and the replay could be paused.
If I remember it well tap select or start and X to continue.

In GT4 it is much more work to investigate a 3 wheel of.
1 save replay
2go to replay theater
3watch replay and use foto mode
4walk trough the menu to get back to your race


Not consumer friendly if you ask me,

I was going by the rules at GT.de, which state you have to keep 2 wheels outside the yellow/ blue curbs. If you go like any of these, the lap is dirty:

It makes it a bit tougher.

I would have but I didn't make the post, sorry. Yes, I used TCS and I think I had the gears the same as you did.

oh yeah, i didn't look, i just thought you made the first post considering your name's in the title. my mistake.

I have a few questions, what gear do u use for the first shickane, the fast right before the looong straight, and the last shickane, i've been using gear 3.

and just clarifying, u r using the 440km top speed, yeah? and r u using the DFP, i've been using the DS2? thanks CFM 👍

I think I was using top speed setting of 440km, but it was a couple of days ago now, so i'm not sure. I know I used 3rd for the first and last chicanes, the sweeper onto the backstraight was 4th I think, maybe 3rd, but I can't remember for certain.

I know however that I was using the DFP.

Sorry I didn't put that in the first post holl01 , I know that it is extremely hard to tell a clean lap from a dirty lap on this track because of all the dirt areas. I'll update it now 👍.

Trying to verify a run in GT4 using replay theatre is pure ****. No matter where you pause, you must frame by frame advance to watch for a touch or a speed loss, and photo mode won't allow it.

You must be damn careful when watching the run right after completion before saving it and moving on. It is at this time, and this time only that you can pause a run without the bastard switching to photo mode. Here you can advance bit by bit with the select button (although not near as easy as GT3 using both start and triangle) and watch your brake icon for any red associated with a loss of even 1 mph. Here your speed and gauges are still visible. Photo mode cancels all that out.

Sometimes I think the creators of this game have no clue. Haven't they read any of the threads over the last 5 years?? Don't they know that there is a small percentage of owners who run this ****er hard, and scrutinize runs for the smallest of errors?

I have ran S-5 recently and have 1 mph speed losses on some runs. Using photo mode and finding many different pausing places I have seen no contact with the armco using several different camera angles. This could mean the "invisible wall" is there an inch or so before the actual armco. Regardless, a loss of speed with full accelerator will deem the run invalid for the databases.

All that said, I dread having to use "replay theater" to deem a run clean or not. A complete joke at best.

Hey, i reached my goal time of under 2'43 and its clean, but i want one of u guys to verify that 👍 The file is .xps from the PAL version. i was close at some instances but i believe it's clean.

If this lap isn't clean, i did a lap thats definitely clean of 1'43.9xx
