I figure, there are tons of people here that use their computers almost too much so...it's time for a change - right?

After all - the first step is admitting you have a problem.

I realised I have a problem when I was at my parent's office yesterday running 4 computers and my home pc (remote access) all at the same time...
- I was surfing the net using my parents graphics machine
- burning dvds using the Mac
- transferring data from my laptop to all the computers using my iPod since the hub over there recently died :mad:
- Backing up the data on the books rig
- and doing continual tweaks remotely to my home machine using remote terminal access

Now, you guys might not think that's bad for a one day thing, but considering that at home, I'm generally using 2 pcs at one time, and helping people I know with pc problems...you begin to realize you're a computer geek.

I admitted my problem months ago and have long since had a great social life. But getting away from computers isn't gonna happen for me considering I'm studying IT b/c it and Architecture are probably the only fields I can spend a lifetime working in and be happy.

Incoming off topic, I repeat incoming off topic.
Is architecture as fun as it looks. I've always loved building and drawing things and stuff and am going to take a computer drafting class in the next few years of High School. I'd say since I was 10 I wanted to be an architect but since you're taking a class, might as well ask you.
 
Helping people with computer problems makes you a nerd? :rolleyes:

uhm...I've been able to do that since I was 8 - it's gotten to the point where there's nothing I've come across that I couldn't find a workaround or a fix to....but when your friends refer you to their friends who in turn refer you to THEIR friends...

@69charger - I'm studying info tech right now but am considering the switch. If I choose not to switch, my university offers a 6 course certificate in Architecture that I will attempt to take in my spare time - if only for a sense of self satisfaction that I know I have tried it.

My friend is in University of Waterloo which, has one of the best arch. programs in Canada. She says the workload is INSANE - she's looking at 40 hours per week of classes and then there's another 20-30 hours a week doing homework or working in the studios doing your artwork.

Your best bet will be to ask Der Alta who, I think is an architect. But you know what? Course/work load is nothing if you're doing something you enjoy and are following your dreams. Do that, and you should be able to live a happy, stress free life 👍. My problem is that there are too many things I take interest in. I settled with IT since it's been something I enjoyed since my first computer - but then, graphic arts, video editing, architecture, sound engineering, working on cars, and electrical engineering are also things I can see myself doing happily. The problem is in DECIDING :S.

jesus.. im wondering what i will be like in the future.. i started computers @ 6 years old. now that im 13 i know a lot about hardware and software and crap like that.. i wonder how geeky i get when im 21.. btw. 14-18 Hr shifts on vacation ^_^ and still i got good eyes, YAY
 
im in tech team at school and we are finally getting out of the basics im learning about maing a web page in frontpage can any1 post here or pm me because i wanna know how to increase my internet connection downstream speed i dont care if i sacrifice about upstream until i launch my web page and yes i admit im a computer geek im pretty smart on comps considering i started really searching and looking up stuff in like around december
 
oh god...FRONTPAGE? Try working with dreamweaver, it's a MUCH better application for the job. I use it to create the item/table, then modify the code till it does what I want it to do.

by the way guys, my first linux experience :D - within a year, I'll upgrade from mandrake to Gentoo. I just need time.
