Changing difficulty

Hi,
Please can someone tell me how to change difficulty??!!
I can't even complete the first driving challenge!!!
Is there some way to change the game difficulty?? not the driving options.

Cars are really slow in online races too. When I pause during a lap, AI speed goes back to normal but soon as I un pause car becomes slow again!!!!
