You change the tyres before the race. If you go into a race and before you start it, go to the driving options menu where you choose your traction control level, which driver aids you want etc. & you will see two drop down boxes at the top for the tyres you want to use front & rear (FYI you have to buy them from the tuning centre before you can use them)
