Changing your oil during championships...

I didn't think it could be done, but lo-and-behold I accidently hit the triangle at the race type selection screen between races and I was able to exit out and change my oil.... learn something new everyday... :dunce:
 
and u just found this out now? lol j/k nice job finding that, it took me a while too. YEah it is good to know that u can change ur oil now.
 
I learned something last week-end about oil change in GT4. As you know, the more your drive, the more the oil gets dirty and the result is you will loose HP.

However, I did the 24 hr race at the ring and I used a M3 GTR race car. At the beginning of the race, I was doing 288 km/hr at the end of the main straight. After 400km, I was doing 281 km/h. After 24 hr, the car had about 4000km on the odometer and I was still doing 281 km/h at the end of the main straight. Consequently, you loose power during the first 400 to 500 km but it looks like it stays the same after that.
 
Actually, since it was a change in top speed, that could've mostly been from the car itself getting dirty. I'm not sure how much it knocks off of your top speed, but 7km/hr seems reasonable. Not saying there wasn't a power loss, but I think my cars have still continued to lose power after the 400-500km mark. In fact, I didn't think they started to lose it until after this point. The fact that it stayed constant after dropping to 281 makes me think dirty car. Anyway, whatever.
 
I was glad to find that feature in GT4. I must have killed so many engines in GT3 not being able to change oil during a race series. 👎

yep could be, I've noticed the car lose a bit of top speed on the ring after 8 or so laps, which isn't enough to make the oil dirty and lose power that way.

It hardly seems likely that 8 laps worth of squished bugs, dust and smoke particles is going to affect your drag significantly. It will cause an increase in skin friction drag due to the more rough boundary layer, but equally beyond a certain point a rough surface can actually be more aerodynamically efficient at high speeds (hence dimples on golf ball) since the turbulence can actually delay flow separation, reducing the pressure drag.

But I honestly can't see that PD haved included that. You say you did 8 laps of the 'Ring - thats 20.8 x 8 = 166.4km, or about 104miles. I think that's a sufficient enough distance for your oil to start to turn dirty, causing a slight loss of power. How you can tell around the 'Ring I dont know, unless you car tops out well before Tiergarten (Im sure there are cars that don't from the videos I've seen).
 
Yeah I know it sounds a bit odd, but I'm fairly certain that after I noticed the loss in top speed I did go and change the oil, yet the power stayed the same. The car was something fairly stockish, either a commodore or monaro, and the point at which I thought the car was losing speed was on the back straight in 6th, where wind resistance is most noticable against the very long top gear. I'll check it out when I get the chance, though atm I'm still having red stopwatch problems so it's a bit hard.
