Good old Channel 9 has screwed Australian Formula 1 fans again and delayed the telecast of this weekend's Malaysian Grand Prix to 11.00 pm - the race is on at about 4 o'clock Sydney time.

Bastards - they did it to us twice last year, and again this year.

For our non-Australian members, Australia suffers the worst GP coverage of all F1 hosting countries. We don't get qualifying, and the races (apart from locally) are shown anything from 10 minutes to 7 hours delayed. It sucks.

Well, I'd venture that the US has some pretty crappy coverage too.

Last year the USGP was covered by ABC, and they did a terrible job. Bad camera work, and the announcers didn't know which driver was on what team. They couldn't even pronounce half the names!

But here's the kicker, their pit man was Jason Priestly. WTF?

Digital TV in Australia? There's yet another sad and sorry story, from the same country that brought you the unique AM Stereo radio format!

Having lived between the UK with pretty good F1 coverage and Australia with "0" coverage (or might as well be) it absolutely drives you crazy the way Australia just side steps F1 and often motor sport in general.

Example:

Yesterday on Good Morning Australia there was something on about Troy Bayliss, which I missed most of, but at the end of the clip, one of the main co-hosts said, "Bayliss, there's a name we'll have to look out for",.... they'd never even heard of him. The other host turned around and said "he was world champion last year you know" sounding a bit embarrased.

But, maybe things will catch up eventually. Or maybe they won't!

I always thought Australia was just as interested in motorsports as Europe? I always think of America as the road-racing ignorant country (most of which can probably be blamed on NASCAR's popularity).

In all fareness, when they host an event such as the GP, they do do a good job and the support that they provide for their local events such as the v8 supercars is good, but it appears that as soon as the sport is happening somewhere else and not directlry happening locally they are not interested. Mind you, I'm sure if Mark Webber starts to rise through the ranks, they'll probably be all over him with the "local boy comes good" thing and look at Australia, we have a top F1 driver, a bit like the days of "Our Bazza" (Barry Sheene) and "Aussie Joe" (Joe Bugner). Until they fall from Grace and are forgotten.

Geez, that reads a bit harsh, oh well.

We are - just pin-head coverage from some of the media outlets.

When you compare it to Channel 10's coverage of the V8 Supercar series and other national titles, you've got knowledgeable presenters, professional enthusiatic coverage.

we get channel 10 footage here, well, we did on speedvision, dunno if speed channel will show it.

btw, when you see the press microphones, the one that says speed on it, black letters and orange background for each letter, that's ours. yep, designed to look like it was designed by gas station architects

New Zealand has the worst.
On the news it shows 2 minutes of it. The actual race is at Midnight every two weeks so I would have to stay up but I can't I got school to go to and then 1 week after the race it shows 45 minutes of highlights. So the races aren't really live but at least we get to see them!
