Many people have strong opinions on the chaparrals: look like shoe boxes, so much character, just so much grip, two washing machines with a snowmobile engine etc...

What do you think?
Sorry if there already is a thread like this but the search button gave no luck:nervous:

Funny looking cars but I love em, too bad they don't throw stones at the cars behind them as they were accused of in real life

That would be awesome in photomode. The whole field with smashed windscreens and knocked out drivers!:)

The 2D is actually a very pretty car, and all were very clever designs for sure. Except for the wiper not being built with Eifel rain in mind, so on the Ring they had to lean out of the car and wipe the screen with their arms. Didn't keep them from winning:

I own the 2j and 2d both, and i love to drive them both in the historic cup. I hate seeing the 2j in my rearview when im using a different car though.

I'd love to be able to tell one way or the other but the things are too darn expensive to get a hold of!

Love, but we still need more Chaparrals.

Love... crazy purpose built race cars they were, why would anyone hate them?

pure love. one of the greatest marques of all time, simply for the awesomeness of texan engineered, privately built american race cars with minor chevrolet support going out and beating giants. I just wish they were premiums.

Answer: When it gets very big very quickly in your rearview... and then gets very small very quickly on the straightaway in front of you!:sly:

But I jest - they look awesome and I'd love to take one for a spin at some point!

LOVE! I wonder how racing would be like if every new technology that was introduced was instead of banned, developed further, like these huge wings and the 2J fan car, Jim Hall was a genius.

The 2J is awesome. Check out youtube videos of it. It sounds like a Chevy V-8 at idle and then turns into a weed-whacker when it starts accelerating. It's not a good feeling hearing that vacuum cleaner sound behind you in the Historic Racing Cup, but when are we ever going to see another race car that is so ridiculous and innovative?

I have the 2D but haven't gotten around to driving it yet. I think it's a nice looking car though.

Looking like a vacuum cleaner, used it once, shocked that it doesn't have a 4th gear, won the race - LOVE! :dopey:

The 2J is a BEAST! what is there to debate?

It's an obvious choice for the Historic cup, because it's so damned good. But I preferred to use lesser cars. But then I'm always up against at least one of the little blighters. A fairly daunting prospect :nervous:

I voted Hate! Vile things, the pair of them. They'll never darken my garage, like that other abomination the Escudo

:yuck::yuck::yuck:

ps. Just saw the picture above. Now thats more like it, I'd love one of those!

Love them or hate them, it's engineering and pushing beyond the boundaries of existing technology that helps develop the motor vehicle. It's a shame the entire range aren't featured, but these two are great fun and make up slightly for their peers non appearance.

Gotta love them! I really want the 2E in GT5 with the wing's height able to be changed just like in real life :D
