Just a question for anybody who's familiar with the technical side of the chat room. I enjoy the chat for sure, but the java/web interface is growing tiresome. I use pidgin as my main IM/IRC client, and I'd love to integrate the GTPlanet chat into it alongside all my other contacts/chats as well.

Is the GTPlanet chatroom indeed an IRC chatroom? If so, is there an IRC server address/port and room name to connect to? I can't seem to find anything searching and the help menu has none of the technical details I'm looking for. :grumpy:

Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately, no, the chat is not running on the IRC protocol. You can only interact with the server via the Java client, as your forum account is used for authentication.

I don't know what protocol is used - it's a commercial, remotely hosted chat service that I subscribe to. Java is the programming language in which the chat "client", or browser applet, is written. It implements whatever internal protocol the service is using to exchange messages with the chat server.
