Cheap NASCAR Game

After looking at most of the reviews for the last few years of NASCAR releases (not just EA). I'm still not sure what NASCAR game to track down.

I'm not a HUGE fan, I'm a racing fan and mostly focus on a few races at tracks I like in real life. I'm a HUGE road racing fan however and while Infineon is in GT4, Watkins Glen is next to no games since the only other major touring series that visits is the IRL but only recently, its not featured in any other PS2 game, (I could be wrong)

But I would like to attack Sears Point and Watkins Glen in the last generation Stock Car and in the COT so I can be the "Road Racing Specialist" that actually wins a race :)

I'm also going to pick up Total Immersion Racing and while I have the Dreamcast and PS1 version of Le Mans 24, I want to hustle a Viper or Saleen Mustang around Road Atlanta and personally never liked the Dreamcast controller.

Those games (TIR and LM24) are dirt cheap ($5 each) and I didn't want to spend much on a Cup game. But as I said the desire to drive the COT leaves me with NASCAR '08 or '09, right? Or would I be better off with one of the Thunder Series or Dirt to Daytona?

Let me know I want to either find the game locally or order online in the next day or so.

Thanks.

I don't own either game but from playing both demo's I liked 09 quite a bit.

Sorry I can't really remember why I liked it more, but I do remember I liked 09 a lot more and considered buying it until I saw its high price point in the UK (£40 or $64)

Dirt to Daytona is great, I play it all the time despite it being quite outdated

Physics are good and the setups are nearly infinitely customizable.

The only thing is that it's missing a few tracks (Pocono, Indy and Chicagoland Speedway).

2004 was awsome as was 2005, those are the two I would suggest. I really like how 2004 has the season mode set up.(drivers retire and get replaced and you can race like 50 seasons).

Also, both have additional "fantasy" courses that are mostly road courses.

Well as it turns out, I got '09 used ($18) but dude forgot to put it in the case! I have to go back tomorrow. I wanted to play with the COT, that's mostly why I got it. I heard '04 Thunder is the best game so far in terms of control, I might take back TMR as most of my complaints about other racing games beyond GT, is the control is funky, the steering is too sensitive, though I did manage to finish 2nd and win two races in GT with the Noble which I think suits my driving style better than the BMW and I haven't tried the Audi TT yet.

Thanks for the suggestions and I might pick up '04 its cheap too.

Just to update, I took back '09 and picked up '04 Thunder instead.

Thus far, its good, but way to easy to lock the brakes. Seems the pressure sensitivity is set a bit too low. No way to change that... :(

With no assist, I can't keep up with Nadeau, the braking I'm having a really hard time with. Its like I have to "pump" the brakes before the "3" mark and then mash the button hard, no way to sense impending lockup. 👎

With "Limited" setting, I got 1:10.643 around the Glen within 3 laps. On no assist you have to get down to 1:09 which I think I can do with limited help.

I guess I have to work with the settings....

If you wanted both the COY and the COT, you'd be best off buying NASCAR 08, since it has both on it, aswell as NW, Trucks and Whelen Mods. N09 only has the COT but the Nationwide cars are pretty similar to the old Cup series cars, just in 09 there's no manufacturer decals like 08.

From,
Chris.
