Hi guys.

I'm starting to become somewhat serious about this GT5 stuff - dangerous indeed! ;)

I'm considering buying a wheel and some pedals for the fun of it. I'm not looking to spend my entire fortune on it, so I'm basically looking for something in the range of 60-80 USD. Is anything in this price range worth buying, and if so, which? Remember, I'm not trying to be the very best at this game, I just want to have fun and improve in general :) So if anybody knows a good, cheap, value for money wheel - please let me know :)

Thanks in advance!

Logitech used to do a lap wheel for about that price range. It doesn't have pedals, it uses analogue paddles behind the wheel, all the reviews seem good. It is wireless and has forcefeedback.

Thanks for the very quick answer :) Would you by chance know the name of this wheel? Pedals aren't a neccesity. I had an idea that they were somewhat bound to be there when you bought a wheel ;)

I'm not sure what the Logitech Driving Force GT goes for outside of the US (goes for ~$120-$130 USD here in the US), but I have one and love it. I know it's a little more than the the price range you listed, but personally I'd rather save a little longer and buy a wheel I know I'll like vs spending less on something I'm not sure I'll like and since the Driving Force GT is the official wheel for GT5 you can be confident it works well.

Thanks for your input :) I'm not really into spending that much money on it, but I'll take your words into consideration for sure!

If you're looking for a cheap, good wheel, you should search Ebay for the Logitech Driving Force Pro. This is a older wheel, made for the PS2, but works with the PS3. It has the same specs as the newer Driving Force GT. I think the only real difference is improved motors.

Anyways, I picked mine up for 25 bucks at a local pawn shop. They seem to be going for about the same thing on Ebay. You should give that a try.

Thanks for your input! I'll definitely look into that option! :)

(Btw, go Falcons)

I use a Logitech MOMO wheel (the black one). It's probably one of the cheaper options now that it's so old (I bought it maybe 5 years ago). A few buttons don't work with GT5, but the major functions work, and it includes pedals, shifters, and force feedback.

I originally paid around $100 CAN, but if you can find one, it should be had for cheaper. For example:

I know a lot of people equate getting a wheel with becoming 'more serious' with the game. For me, it's all about the immersion and fun factor.

A wheel makes the game 10x more FUN - nevermind getting better lap times or smoother driving. For this reason, I would recommend anyone with even a casual interest in GT5 get a wheel, so long as you can afford one and have a stable platform to mount it on.

I would definitely suggest going to used/refurb route if you're on a tighter budget. I got my DFGT for $60 (+$20 shipping) about 6 weeks before GT5 came out. Those days are long gone due to demand, but if you're patient, and stay on top of eBay (or local online classified sites if available) then you may still be able to find a good deal.

Good to see the Falcons Fan Club in Denmark is going strong. :)

Just had a look on Ebay and they seem to be going from the 30-50 USD range.

Please please PLEASE don't waste your money on the Driving Force Wireless... just save up the extra $30 to $50 and buy yourself a Driving Force GT... trust me it's the difference between investing in something you'll actually USE and ENJOY rather than something you'll fiddle with a couple times and throw in the closet, never to be seen again.

I feel like such a cheapskate...

I went and got a Logic 3 Top Drive GT wheel from the UK GAME website for £30. No force feedback but it's well built and the steering isn't too light. I do like my racing but I couldn't afford to spend a lot of money on an official GT wheel... :-/

so the thing is, it dosnt work when I enter race, I can just press start button to exit or restart game, It works fine with "motorstorm Passific Rift" and ps3 recodnizes it and sets my SixAxis to Controler Nr.2, i can choose everything in menu with pedals (up / down) and wheel (right / left) but when I enter race nothing happens, no brake, no gas, no wheel.. can somebody help me please? :ouch:

I got the Driving Force wireless wheel...used it once, couldn't turn to save my life...looked for some way to adjust the turning sensitivity...found nothing...now trying to sell my Driving Force wireless wheel. Another vote for the DFP. I used one for years and it is still a great wheel. I'd still be using it, but I wanted something that would work for Forza as well so I picked up a Fanatec GT2.

Wow :) cool setup!

I had the same dilemna back in November, before I decided to go high end with the GT2 and Clubsport pedals. My suggestion is that you stretch your budget a little higher and get a Logitech Driving Force GT wheel and pedals. Make sure you assess how you will mount the wheel as well. The GT has table clamps. I mounted it to my wheelstandpro.

Good luck and have fun!!! I do not recall having more fun with videogames than the last couple of months since the release of Gran Turismo 5. I have been playing that and my other racing games non-stop!!!
