I got the Yellow Light of Death yesterday and the first thought was, "I`ll bet someone can help me on GTPLANET".
Sure enough, I used the search function and read a couple threads, and followed a little trail of crumbs to a web site that gave clear and easy to follow advice, and I am happy to say that my PS3 is up and running, within 24hrs of being declared dead.👍

okay well now its time to help a brother out please! Mine is now dead again :( got it repaired twice but after about a month of gaming now same Yellow Light. I'm now thinking of opening it up and seeing what I can do myself, got some thermal paste and hoping that the cpu is the problem. Please give me a link or anything that may be helpful! Thank you in advance!

just watch a few Youtube vids of disassembly.

#1 Be sure to watch the later parts carfully ounce you get down to the CPU
#2 Be really carful of the screw's that hold the CPU/GPU clamps as there made of kinda soft metal and can strip or in my case sheer the threads off in the hole:banghead:

#3 get like 2 or 3 cups so you can put the srcews in in the from the diffrent layers if you will of the disassembly & keep track of where certain screws come from because there's 3 type's just under both plastic covers not inclueding the clap screws.

#4 take your time with the ribbon wires.
And also you wont need to remove the fan or lower metal shield(avoid that lower shield its tricky) to replace the paste .

Other than that the PS3 is super easy to work on 👍

The reflow isn't a definitive fix. When my PS3 got the YLOD and I fixed it, I knew I had to get a new one. I transferred the info to the new one, and boxed my original 60GB unit. I would advise you do the same or do a reballing, which is a permanent fix. You cannot do it yourself, and it costs some money.

Yes i am now doing the same! Just hoping to not lose my data this time, for some reason it was all wiped when the shop fixed it for me :/
