Cheating and why it's dumb

I don't like cheating in any game, but Gran Turismo 3 is such a masterpiece of technical accuracy that it seems pointless to cheat at it. Not only does it negate the purpose of the game and make it boring, but the whole intention of the game is to introduce a REALISTIC racing experience. People who start this "million mile an hour" threads I think are just making fools of themselves because anyone can cheat and do that, but to succeed by following the rules is what makes an impressive, skillful player. And that's all I have to say about that.

Keep on burnin rubber,
Mike

I agree with you, but I think those threads are for people who have already completed the game 100% based on their own driving skills and have explored every normal facet of the game. They are just looking to extend their interest in the game, because we all know that once you beat a game it can get boring pretty fast. Though GT3 is still interesting the 2nd and even the 3rd time around, what's left to do after that? Maybe find ways to break out of the barriers on certain tracks, make cars behave funny, or share anecdotes about the stupid AI cars!

What I'm saying is, GTP is a site dedicated to ALL things Gran Turismo, and this includes quirks and general silliness. Why, there's even a message board section that has nothing to do with GT, just for the members here to continue participating in their online community!

So, if you hate the threads about nonsense and think they detract from the gaming experience of GT3, simply decline to read them and instead search for something you are interested in. Like Futurama quotes, Arnold Schwarzenegger one-liners, news / current events, tuning and lap times, online racing groups, or anything else you can think of really!

I only consider cheating in GT3 as an attempt to pass off a lap/race/sprint time as legitimate when it isn't.

Wheelie all you want. Don't pretend that a wheelie lap around the outside barrier of Test Course is bona fide.

I agree. Let them have their backflips and bazillion miles per hour games. That stuff will appeal to some while others will focus on realistic grip racing while other are drifters, etc etc.

But just because you can make the Escudo got 1,000,000 mph around the test course with a laptime of 59secs means absolutely nothing.

I think it depends on why your cheating, If you cheat once you begin the game to get like a million ollars I think thats being cheap, but If you've beaten the game and just wanna have fun then I have no problem with that.

Greetings Evoboy, I agree with you totaly. What's the point of buying something only to get half the enjoyment out of it.Try playing any Resident Evil game with all weapons and all energy, it gets boring very quickly. That game is known for it's excitment and terrifying moments, all well and good. But as soon as you use a gameshark it's as about as enjoyable and scary as going to turn on your kettle.
Infact the only cheats I can tollerate are when they're rewarded to you after completing a game(Goldeneye 007 N64)which was quite a good challenge. 👍
I do apologise for not mentioning GT3 in any way in my rant.

cheating is bad! they take off whole letter grade if you cheat in school!
if you cheat in GT3, the game gets boring-er.

We have all been through this before. We all know that cheating in games takes the fun away and make us dishonest, low-life players. But in GT3, it could not get any more worse if you cheat, especially habitually.

Hiya evoboy:
:D WELCOME to the GTP Forums!!! You'll do well here with your attitude! 👍 (BTW: You're not a Cards fan are you???) ...UB57 :D

👍👍👍 The ONLY 2 Ball Caps I own are a "Home" & "Away" version. Been a fan since "Stan the Man's" day!!!👍👍👍 ...UB57 :D

Cheating is just another way of finding limits.
You can find your driving limits, the game realism limits, the arcade mode limits (when you've won all races in pro mode), the simulation mode limits (when you've completed a 229 day game).
When all this is done and GT4 is still not release and you have a Shark-port, you start looking for further limits.
You run 100 laps on Test Course, you make yourself a 200 supershined cars garage, you check which cars can do the wheelie trick, you break though the track boundaries...
I did all that (except the 100 laps on Test Course) and I still don't have the feeling that I'm cheating : I'm exploring, that's different.

Isn't cheating a way to gain an unfair advantage? The million mile per hour threads aren't thread about cheating.. It's just a way to exploit a glitch and have fun with it.. Nobody's taking advantage of it and running the Formula Gt at million mph... Welcome GTP :)

Really? I always thought you get a ZERO and possibly suspension. school in Korea must be easy...

I cheat and proud of it, It's the only way to get Hidden cars and tracks! Also the only way to make GT3 cars sound like there so suppose to sound, The games Sound engine is just so far off from the way they should sound so I fixed all my cars to sound loud like there suppose to!, By Cheating... :)

It's not exactly a "masterpiece of technical accuracy" when it comes to the AI cars they're all pretty useless to be honest. The only real test are the licences, everything else can be circumvented, having a problem winning a race? No problem! Just bolt on a spec 4 turbo and blow the opposition into the dust! With features like this it's hardly necessary to cheat no matter how bad a driver someone is. The lack of damage on the cars doesn't help either, the first race I ever won was in GT 1 on the Special Stage and I won it by keeping the gas pedal to the floor and just bouncing off the walls!

How does breaking though a wall give any one an unfair advantage? I don't think that is cheating. Cheating is riding the walls, cutting corers, and slamming AI. Even though I don't do it I think making hybrids is a form of extreme art. You want to see your favorite car doing things it shouldn't do.

what i dont like is the people who all they do it cheat, and cheat to beat games,i have gotten %100 and i tired the getting out of the track, its just fun, good find to still play the game when normally you'd would touch it. I have chosen to start drifting instead of just cheats.

I don't have a gameshark or the hard drive for the ps2 so i can't cheat, even if i wanted to. I don't think it'd be fun to cheat in GT3 simply because wining the races and cars, breaking your fastest lap time and earing 100% is more fun when its a challenge

It makes it all worth while when you beat a game all on your own.
