The Corvette Challenge is a spec racing car (predating the Ferrari Challenge) using the base model Corvette. It uses all of the standard mechanical parts and they usually output similar power to the original car. The 1988 Corvette Challenge outputted 245HP, the same as the base Corvette at the time. The car is basically a standard Corvette with racing livery. 56 Corvette Challenge cars were made for 1988, when the Corvette Challenge was introduced. It used the same 245HP engine in the Corvette 350. There were also several racing modifications including a racing roll cage, fire extinguisher, Blistein shock absorbers, racing seats, safety harness, PBR brake pads and discs, racing exhaust system and lightweight Dymag wheels with Goodyear tyres. These cars were not cheap, costing $33,045 for the car AND a $15,000 entry fee to race at the Corvette Challenge. When participating your car got a new paint job full of racing sponsors including Goodyear and Exxon but this livery is removed and the car repainted to factory colour once the event is over.
