Ron Hodgson, Managing Director, NZ Custom Vehicles Ltd, has announced recently that his company has secured distribution rights to several Chinese-made vehicles that will be marketed in New Zealand under the X-Breed banner.

The first of these will be the Landmark <pictured>, providing that name is available for automotive use in New Zealand, Hodgson said. "We will be bringing in several versions of the Landmark with different powertrains, including the latest high-pressure common-rail turbodiesels, with both automatic and manual transmissions. Initially, we intend concentrating on 4x4 SUVs and utes as well as 2wd light commercials, as we build up the dealer network. Low-cost family cars and possibly hybrids will follow

What kind of brand name for a car is X-Breed?!? I can't wait to see these popping up on New Zealand's roads . Sadly I can see these becoming very popular just like the Lada Cossacks of the late 80s and early 90s. Damn cheapskate Kiwi motorists.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

It's a Crossbreed!!

They've blatantly told everyone that it's a crossbreed of various components and trademarks "liberated" from other companies. Look at that logo on the spare tire. Does it scream "Land Rover Copy" to you?

Calling a car a Landmark is stupid. The Cadillac ranch is an automotive landmark. And those probably don't run well by now... :dopey:

How can this happen?

I heard those Chinese cars have appalling crash ratings. And with the new laws coming into effect soon, how can these be registered on our roads?

SUVs and commericals aren't subject to the frontal impact laws in New Zealand. That is why Mitsubishi has been able to continue selling the L300 van with no airbags and "integrated driver/crumple-zone" technology :)

Edit: I hadn't notice how close the Land - Mark logo is to Land-Rover. I'm sure Ford NZ will enjoy suing the pants off them for that one!

Oh FFS! That law gets stupider by the day.

And they wonder why our road toll keeps increasing. You can guarantee that if they manage to get a foothold with the X-Breed things other Chinese SUVs will start flooding in. I'm going to cry when I see the first one of these doing the school run, because the parents think that they are safer in an SUV.

Please do the world a favour and spread what word you can in dissuading your fellow motorists in not only disliking them, but hating them. Afterall, we must rid the roads of these cheap, ugly excuses for cars now, as well as for the future ahead. Key them if you must.

Um, no. That'd just be dumb.

That's what I do when there is somebody in the spot next to me who is somehow behind me....

Maybe people will realize when they see somebody in a subcompact drive away from a crash when the X-breed driver is carted off to the hospital.

That must be a very flexible, or long car to be simultaneously beside and behind you.

Simple: Big Dodge Dakota pulls into spot next to me. Big Dodge Dakota doesn't pull all the way forward and is at an angle. I have to turn my car in my spot and barely squeeze through the hole between the car parked properly next to me and the rear of the Big Dodge Dakota.
