...I need to know how to transfer ipad files-videos,pictures etc to my windows 7 PC,without the need for additional software, just directly. No apps,no expensive 3rd party software for my PC and no icloud or itunes.
Help would be great.

EDIT:Thread updated

I'm looking for advice on the best tablet to get and indeed, what's the best tablet out there?
Also why are tablets so popular?
What's the need/want for them?
What is so special compared to a laptop?

I don't think it's possible without one of the things you mention, welcome to the delights of apple products. You have to sync with the pc, but you need stuff to do that too from memory. I sold my i pad because of this nonsense.

If its anything like a iPhone 4 then all you do is plug it in to the USB port, it should show up in "my computer" as another drive, click it open and browse through the folders. Copy and paste...done.

Thanks for the help.;)
So is that the only way?
Some 3rd party software, sync with PC and transfer?
I've also read it can be done through icloud but that costs money.
I guess if I had an apple PC it would be easy.

EDIT:when I connect it to my PC through USB,it recognises the device but not any files.

Hmm, I guess the iPad is different then, I pull video and pics from the camera roll on my iPhone as easy as a flash drive. I'll try it with my wife's iPad when I get home.

If you haven't already synced with another PC you should be able to do it by connecting the USB, but you also need a wifi connection too  I had 2 PCs which meant the I pad was useless to me. I think it'll wipe all your stuff if you try to sync to another PC.

Ok,I might give that a try.;)

Well I just plugged my wife's iPad 3 into a computer, opened up the iPad icon in "my computer" and all pics and videos that were taken with the iPad itself were right there in the root directory, no folders. Guess I'm just the lucky one :)

Is an apple computer?
Mine's a Dell windows PC,and an ipad 4.

You could always email them to yourself as attachments. It might be quite a long winded process but it's what we have often done to get things off the iPad.

Damn, after talking to my wife I think they may be the photos that were obtained using the camera connection kit. Sorry.

I'm using windows 7 pro on a Dell XPS laptop, weird how the iPhone 4s and 4 just let me browse through various folders for pics while the iPad (3 in our case) doesn't running the same version of iOS, 6.1.3

The email thing will work too, even if you just save the drafts with uploaded attachments.

Mine was an i pad 2, I remember when I plugged it into my laptop it said i needed a wifi connection to sync it to the i pad, before I can transfer files. But maybe needed i tunes too, I'm not 100% sure. It can be done, but not with more than one computer at a time as far as I remember.

Well I've had enough of this tablet ipad nonsense,so I've got rid of mine.
Thanks for everyones input,it's all very helpful.:)
I'm in the market for a samsung tablet and I'm looking for advice on what's the best tablet to get.

Nexus 10. We just picked up 5 of them at work and so far I have no complaints.

Wow it looks like a great piece of hardware on paper!
So I've decided I'm getting the Samsung tab 10.1.
It's the nexus's sister you might say.

I would get the nexus since it gets all of googles updates when they get released.

Unlike Tab3s which goes to samsung to be bloated and modded to samsungs liking.

I have the Nexus 7 (1st generation, a month before the new generation!) and its actually rather good kit for what you pay for.

I mainly use it for work when I am out and about and it does the job and then some.

Software wise, its pretty snappy and seems to run quite smoothly all the time.
