Is there anyway you can choose your opponents cars in GT5 single player (Arcade mode or any other?)

Eg) I'd like to race Nordschleife, with say... a Lambo Murcielago and have all the opponents to have underpowered cars such as Subaru Impreza, BMW 3.5i etc or vice versa and have overpowered cars while I'm in a Beetle.

From what I can see, you can only choose ;

Arcade mode and have Single Race with a choice of C, B and A as difficulties (does this change the classes of car cos it doesn't seem to or make the AI better in the alotted car). All cars seem to be in the same range of performance as whichever car you choose. So if you wanted a Classic car race and chose a 200bhp E Type classic Jaguar, can you have all the other 15 opponents in similar CLASSIC cars, cos it won't work for me, all it does is chooses random cars of all ages/types with similar performance.

The other option is to make ALL CARS SAME - which is what I don't want.

In Prologue at least in the pre-race setup you had a setting of CARS from 0 - 101 (101 being all Formula 1 cars) and whatever car you chose it would give you a default number setting of that car's ability eg) Choose a Subaru Impreza and the setting would be at 35 (i think) and if you kept it as this setting you would race against cars of similar power like Mitsubishi Evo's and Lotus's etc but if you upped the number to 70 or 80 then you'd be racing tuned cars and big name Ferrari's etc, down the number to 15 to 20 and you'd be racing against Suzuki swifts, Cappucino's etc, but all the time in the car of your choice.

Is there a similar thing I'm missing in GT5?

Not sure why you'd want that. There's a serious problem with the AI in that it's not competitive at all! Most of us have to "tune-down" or limit our power to make a race against the AI competitive. Even then it's win the battle in the turns, lose the battle on the straights. But I've found nothing where you can tell the AI what car(s) to drive.

I agree the AI is aweful and non competitive, but I'd like to have cars of all sort on the track sometimes when I'm just cruising round. Like the Special Events on Nordschleife where you do a full lap and you have a range of different slow moving Mercedes on track to overtake.

But you can't pit some cars against some cars i.e JUST Classic cars against each other. The only way of doing it is getting someone else online. Shame you can't manufacture your own races. Should be no reason why you can't do it, they implemented Infinite laps in the options menu which is pointless...

But as I mentioned earlier the system in Prologue was not too bad as you could up the number to what you wanted for more fierce rival cars (again as you said "win in corners, lose on straights"), but you could tune your car up to compete with the high 80-90 numbered cars, which you can't do in GT5.

Also weaving in and out of slow moving traffic can be fun if you're in a monster car ;)
