Christmas Bonus! Christmas Spirit?

Did you get one this year?

I've been noticing a trend in recent years regarding end of the year payouts by the companies I've worked for. It seems that every year they don't give out a bonus, makes that much easier to not give one the next year.

Out of the last 4 years, only one time has a company given out a bonus.

What really steams me is that when I came on board with this company, I asked what their policy was on overtime. I was told that they don't pay overtime, but instead figure the extra hours into your bonus at the end of the year. Now that we didn't get a bonus, how much incentive do I have to work overtime?

The added stress that Christmas brings has outweighed any fesitive feelings that it is supposed to bring. Instead, I have to deal with Holiday traffic, insane people shopping, trips to visit family, Office deadlines that are always a few days before, and assorted other maladys that darken the spirit.

Yes, I've got a bit of "Bah, Humbug" today.

Am I the only one?

I didn't get a bonus either, damnit! :mad:




I suppose my chances of receiving a Christmas bonus would be greatly increased if I actually had a job. My new years resolution is to get a job so I can not get a Christmas bonus next year. :)

No bonus since I don't have a job...

But my dad didn't get a bonus this year, for about the first time ever since his company is having one of it's slowest years ever.
 
Bonus. . . What is that like a cherry Evolution after winning a race??? Never heard of such a thing known as a "bonus"
 
A bonus is when your employer gives you extra money for the holidays, a promotion, or for good performance, and so forth.

Said "bonus" was said "sarcasm" BTW, in the real world, it is more along the lines of who's butt you kiss over your "performance".
 
I got a hundred dollar bonus from my boss. Now I have to send him a Thank You note, so it's a pain in the ass.
 
So, I got a pay rise in April. Have I seen any of the money yet?

Did I hope that I might get a big wad of "back-dated cash" in my 22.12.2003 salary?

Was I disappointed?

Yes.

Did I get a Christmas Bonus?

No.

Did I send a nice little "present" e-mail on the subject to personnel?

Yes, Oh, yes.
 
This is giving me more and more reasons to start my own business. . . good thing I got the plan all setup, it is just going to take the next three years to get it moving :D
 
I got a bonus; medium-to-small in size. There was some hooharah about bounses because apparently Corporate changed the bonus rules so that below a certain tier didn't get anything. This led to a number of group leaders being told "The good news is that here's a decent bonus for you. The bad news is, if you want any of your staff to get a bonus, you need to cut them a personal check out of that." Luckily I didn't get sucked into that maelstrom.

To AO: I'd say you've got little incentive to work overtime at all. Motivation is a great thing, eh?

To GG: If I may ask, why didn't they just say "Sorry, Mr. Guthrie, but there won't be an increase this year?" I kind of don't understand how they can say you've gotten a raise without actually paying you any more money.
 
Gee, sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I did get a bonus this year. Of course, the way it works is this:

You get a certain amount depending on how long you've been with the company, what position you're in, and what sort of training you have. Our monthly commission checks have about 5% taken out for the "Christmas Fund", so this is thrown back into your bonus. And to top it all off, if we are rated well among the other dealerships in customer satisfaction, the entire amount is doubled.

So, I made out well, except that November's commission sucked despite a metric ton of hard work, therefore:

Bonus = Last Month's Commission.

Well, when I transferred across to my current company, I stayed on my old company's Terms and Conditions, which mandate a "cost of living" pay raise at the start of the financial year. Therefore, the current company has to give me that raise, and by not paying me the extra, they're in effect stealing the money from me.

However, they wanted us to transfer across to their T&Cs, and in order to do it, promised to give us the raise, plus another couple of percent (this was varied from person to person depending on performance, I did rather well). The extra increase was backdated also.

The e-mail slap I sent to Personnel was one of my best-ever e-mails, and the response I got back was suitably pathetic.

Next month the backdated pay should almost double my take-home. Excellent!
 
I got a £50 bonus at my Christmas meal

That will go towards New Years Eve:)
 
Working in the public sector. Not a chance. :( Though this year we tried to persuade our boss to buy us a symbolic gift, just to show us we've been working hard. And she ended up buying us a box of chocolates. Well, that's better than last year.
 
Don't work, but I don't think my mom got one, she works at Lowes.
 
No bonus here for me either :(

Granted I only work 3-4 days a week but when ever anybody wants some time off Im the guy they go to to work the extra time including 16 days straight recently while one of the bosses had 2 weeks off while his missus gave birth, the only real time I take off is for the AUS F1 GP in March and rarely take a day off for anything

One company I worked for gave out a $20AUS gift voucher from a local supermarket as the bonus :lol: what a joke that was
 
Man i feel really fortunate

I got a bonus from the owner of our company not alot only $250

plus my boss at my shop gave me a gift and $50:D

guess that makes up for the crappy hourly rate i get though
 
Everybody where I work gets a holiday card from the owner with a $50.00 bill in it. Not so much a bonus as a gift. It's better than nothing.
 
Got nada but 'christmas party allowance' you can claim back in Januarys paycheck all 35 taxfree £s whoopeedoo:)

Why dont companys realise a small once a year gesture changes the way employees think about there company and work.:( Well me anyway.
