V8 Camry? Not too likely, I think. Crown, maybe, but they're not sold outside Japan.

Do not count it out jsut yet, its been hinted at by Toyota, and they have more of a serious go at the performance market with the camry in australia. Toyota have also had talks with V8supercars boss Tony Cochrane as recently as the aus F1 GP on he subject of Toyota in V8supercars, and Cochrane has said hes mroe open to the idea tahn he has been previously. And to be eligable for V8supercars, there has to be a V8 model in existent in the line up, so its possible, but not for a few years at least

I am really tired of the Ford vs Holden crap, I like the old days when all sorts of manufactuers competed. I welcome anyone new.

Just doesn't make any sense to me. The Camry is plenty competitive in both power and economy with 4s and 6s, why would they make a V8 version?

Your knowledge on cars never ceases to amaze me. 👍

Ask Volkswagen.

PS: there won't be a V8 Camry, ever.

Better question: why can't a get I manual tranny and a V6 in either the Accord or the Camry? As a performance option, not an economy option?

V8 Supercars won't change I don't think. They are getting close racing and great attendance at races with the Ford/Holden thing. Unless Toyota or LOL Mitsubishi can locally produce a rear-drive large family sedan with a V8, making sure the proposed V8 supercar version uses all the same components as the Fords/Holdens, and goes exactly the same speed, they won't let it compete. V8 supercars is a very tightly scripted formula these days...

They don't want any one make dominating the championship, or conversely, always losing. It keeps the crowds there. Plus neither Toyota or Mitsubishi (Chrysler is OUT, its not locally produced, which are the rules) have any sort of cred among people who like the championship at the moment.

At its simplest level, its an event and attendence driven operation, and if Toyota or Mitshubishi can't bring significantly greater attendance/fans, they won't be allowed to enter.

I would LOVE to see all different cars ala the Dick Johnson Ford Sierra era back in the late 80s but its not about true motor racing anymore, its almost to the point of scripting who wins, like wrestling. All those rule changes so Holden can't win as easily etc...

The companies that don't do V6 midsize sedans (which is most of them) believe that if a consumer wants a sporty midsize sedan, they have many options and that no one associates "Honda Accord" with sporty. It's the same reason why Mazda makes a V6/manual combination: they want to be considered sporty.

Honda and Toyota also know that any consumer buying a V6 manual new is going to get eaten on resale day and they don't want their brand's resale values to suffer.

I agree, those days were the best.

It's called "300 Touring".
Does that mean there might be a Magnum sedan? :D

M5P: This is kinda unrealistic, but I'm getting light headed at the thought of a Camry coupe with - heavily detuned for emissions and sound but still revving plenty high and making good power - a V8 derived from their 2005? (06?) F1 program  Even the IRL program... I know it's just a dream but that would be sweet :sly:

Even with the arm-breaking torque steer :dopey:

300 Touring? Interesting. And a Magnum Sedan would be interesting as well. More like the return of the station wagon, but with a Hemi. "That thing got a Hemi?" You damn right! I still think the Chrysler is a pretty nice machine. Looks expensive, but starts at around $23K USD here in America. It isn't as expensive even fully decked out, either, at between $35K and $40K. But I look at it like this. Since American car makers love being like "why go with foreign cars when you can have these American machines at much lower prices (henceforth, why Porsche, when you can have a Corvette)," I think the Chrysler 300 is more like "why would you want a more than $200K Bentley when you can have a Chrysler 300?" Nice car. Big 👍 to DaimlerChrylser.
