I think the problem occurs after automatic updates anyway. A couple of times i don't think there was an update before the problem.
Anywho. After doing automatic updates (or not, as the case could sometimes be) and turning off the computer problems arise when i go to turn it on next (few hours/days later).
Usually it loads okay all the way to the Windows XP Home loading screen (with the moving 'loading' bar). After that it goes to the normal black screen (which isn't entierly black) but about a second after that it goes completely black like the monitor has turned off (but i assure you that this has nothing to do with the monitor) and stays that way. It is like the hard drive loads up XP, but forgets to send the visuals to the monitor.
Only way to resolve the problem is turn it off for a day or so i think. I've restarted and turned off the computer millions of times to try get it to load properly, but it has probably only worked two times out of ten.
I've turned Automatic Updates off now after the last incident last week meant i couldn't get on the computer all day.
