Circuit de Gilles Villeneuve Circuit Experience – What’s the Trick?

Hey guys,

Just to be clear, I’m not asking how to get gold. I already got it by around 2.7 seconds, so it’s a decent lap.

What puzzles me is something else.

In all four sectors, I’m faster than the demonstration ghost, sometimes by a noticeable margin. Yet when I look at some of the really fast lap times people are posting, they’re on another level entirely. Not just the aliens, but quite a few other drivers as well.

I don’t think I’ve seen this on any other Circuit Experience. Usually if you’re comfortably ahead of the ghost, you’re in roughly the right ballpark. Here, it feels like you need to be much faster than the ghost to actually be quick.

I’m trying to understand where that speed is coming from.

Is there something unique about this track? Is there a particular technique, line, or approach that unlocks those extra tenths? Does this track happen to favor controller or wheel, or is that mostly irrelevant?

The challenge for me is that I only have the ghost replay as a reference, and I’m already quicker than it, so I don’t really have a benchmark lap to study and understand where the next chunk of pace is hiding.

For those of you who have truly mastered this Circuit Experience and put down some seriously fast laps, where do you find the speed? What are you doing differently? And if you know of any exceptionally fast replay worth studying, I’d love to see it.

The ghost is slow here, same with a lot of the newer CE's. Might just be throwing off your reference?
 
Meaning following my ghost? I cannot learn from myself. I need to understand what fastest people do, especially sector 3 and 4.

I shall accept NO slander of my glorious CGV (to be fair, I like the track for watching more than racing, and I prefer to race it in racing cars, but still).

Go into "Showcase" do 'content search' choose 'replays' then over on the right, choose the track, then at the bottom I think it is referenced as 'type' choose circuit experience. They should come up that way. I am sure you will find a bunch in there.
PRO TIP>>>> do NOT watch them in the results, the ones you want to watch, click 'collection' to add to your collection list. then go to your collection page and watch there. Otherwise, when you back out of the replay from the search page, you will have to create the search all over again.

And for the record...I kinda enjoy the track, it does have a good flow to it. I have made two top 100 runs there in the past.

Honestly speaking, the F1 games did this track better. I am surprised by those large sausage kerbs at the chicane leading to the Wall of Champions. The track also feels constricting to me.

Or maybe that's just me. I enjoy Yas Marina more in terms of the new track additions.

So you got me to wondering about this and I decided to go look at the times and saw the large gap you are asking about.... I found your answer.
It seems the track has some expoits that were found. Whether or not they have been patched or not, I don't know. I didn't test. This is the one I found, it was shared as a "bug report" thankfully.
This screenshot gives you your search terms and it's Sector 1 ... a shortcut on pit road.
