SIR-COOL-HAND
Please help.

I think I'm going to lose my mind completely if I don't get some help or advice on how to pass this stage. I'm driving on professional with no assists, no TC and and ABS on 1. I use a driving force GT wheel and have gotten gold on every stage in class C and every stage of class B except for B8.

Has anyone here achieved a sub 1:12:00 lap on professional? I've only dipped into the 1:12s once with a 1:12:8ish. Most of the time I average 1:13:4ish. The Nissan GT-R 07 feels so skittish under heavy braking.

I just don't know what else to do. Even when I feel like I've nailed every braking zone and kissed every apex I'm still bloody nowhere near achieving gold.

I feel your pain. I'm in the same boat, I think 1.12 is too low a time for a Class B race. Still, it is what it is. Although I've not managed it myself what has worked for me elsewhere is lots of practice in Arcade. I think if you can manage a 1.12.8 in Arcade on S2/S2 tyres then a 1.11.999 may be achieveable in the event which lets you use S3/S3. At least, that's my theory. My best in Arcade is about 1.13.3 which is a little less than 1 sec off the world record.

What's working for me so far in Arcade with S2/S2 - aim to carry at least 250km/h around the banked curve, changing down from 6th to 5th to knock a bit of speed off, aiming to get back on the throttle after the apex in 5th all the way down the next straight. 4th gear through the 180 lefthander braking halfway between the two little shadows on the right side of the track. The esses are tricky, I late-apex the first one, move to the centre of the track, turn sharply to late-apex the second and hope I've timed it so I don't smack into the wall on the exit of the turn and entry of the tunnel. For the final turn 4th then 3rd gear, another late apex (totally missing the potential first apex), as early as possible on the power and hopefully over the line with 233-236km/h.

This is not perfect by the way so if anyone has any comment for improvement I'd welcome it, particularly a better strategy for the final corner to maximise exit speed on the straight.

Is there any car to slipstream on during the event?

I hope that helps by the way even if it's not quite the answer you wanted.

Thanks for the feed back mate.

In the last few days I've managed to dip into the 1:12s a couple of times. My official best time is now a 1:12:608. For quite some time I used the same strategy as you in the first banked left hander - I used to shift from 6th to 5th to bleed some speed along with a gentle tap of the brakes. But now I remain in 6th and just lift briefly while making sure I get my turn-in just right. You're definitely right that maintaining 250km/h as a bare minimum is crucial to the corner.

The rest of the lap you sound pretty similar to me except for the last corner. I've found that running a line through the middle of the entire bend allows me to maintain a higher speed. I try to keep the car at around 160km/h at a minimum otherwise I've buggered it up and then slowly squeeze on the power to get a good exit.

Keep me posted on how you go. We're gonna do this man! Even if it kills us.

Thanks, I'll try both. I'm still hammering around in Arcade on S2s as there I get to see my ghost and that of others I download. I'm also trying to get gold on A3 at the same time, and gold on S10, all in pro physics. Not easy, but that's the point!

Well I made some genuine progress tonight. I managed to break my previous best three times. One lap was a 1:12.5ish and two laps were 1:12.4s - my official best being a 1:12.436.

I really think I have the lap in me now. I just need to stitch three solid sectors together. I keep butchering sector two which is really frustrating given it used to be the part of the track I consistently nailed. Lately I keep getting my braking all wrong.

Good news. Are you doing this in Arcade (S2/S2) or the event (S3/S3)?

I went back to Arcade last night for a few laps and using your techniques of staying in 6th and then constant-radius around the last turn I got within 3/10 of my best time, around 1.13.5. I was a little rusty and never quite put together a really good lap so I expect I can beat my best there. I'm looking for a sub-1.13 in Arcade and then hoping the extra grip of the S3 tyres will take me below 1.12 in the event.

Good work. Yeah, getting that banked turn one is quite difficult but you can definitely stay in 6th and maintain over 250km/h when you get it absolutely nailed. Truth be told I haven't tried competing in arcade because I'm too scared I'll finally produce my banzai lap when it won't count! That's why I always keep driving in the event itself.

As with the last turn I've now been experimenting with yet another line. Now I'm starting quite wide upon entry under braking, my right wheels actually on the concrete median. I then plunge in quite deep under brakes and then try to cut back quite sharply to try and cut a very late apex and get a nice clean exit. Kinda like an upside down 'V' shaped line although not quite that sharp. Does that make sense? It seems to be bringing me an extra few tenths because I'm now carrying so much more speed down the final straight.

Anyway, keep experimenting and I'll do the same. If I come across any new lines that work for me I'll let you know.

Yes that makes sense and it's my original, late-apex line. I'm considering third gear on S1 tyres, I suspect on S2s you'll have sufficient grip to use 4th through there.

On the banked corner if I can get through there at 250 on S1s you should be able to go a little quicker on S2s. Although if my apex speed drops to 248 I consider that good...I can't always keep 250 through there although keeping in 6th doesn't unsettle the car as much as the change to 5th so I can brake later which helps.

I'm also finding the GT-R will understeer, I just keep winding the lock on and she'll turn tighter but not much, handy for the exit of corners.

I just ran a 1.13.3 on S1s, about 1/10 off my record. The world record on S1s is 1.12.2. I'm 117th so far. Need another 4/10 and then I'll go for the event!

I'm inspired for another go now. Nice to have a driving partner, roll on GT5 where we can have private track days and practice together!

are you guys using a wheel or a pad? I can't get gold with proffesional physics too, but i'm using a pad.

I'm using a Driving Force GT wheel and pedals. I have it mounted to a wheel stand pro. It's a neat little seat up and great bang for buck.

I've actually given up on B8 for a while. I've gone back to the drawing board to refine my driving technique as I think I'd benefit from a smoother style. I've been running plenty of laps at Suzuka in the GT-R 07 on professional settings to develop this. I've found that, while I'm currently lapping slower than I used to, I'm making far less mistakes and I'm steadily improving. I've also found I'm a lot more consistent. If I can keep up my rate of improvement I think it will leave me far better equipped to take on B8 again in the future.

I've had a stab at a few A class stages lately. It's amazing how easy some of them are as I've quickly earned quite a few gold trophies. There's no question that B8 is much, much harder than a number of A class stages.

Hey Luke

I went all the way through the game and just got what medals I could as I went. I then came back and started clearing golds. By the time you finish S class your skills will be much improved.

Some S class races are easier than B classes!

The difficult A class is the F430 one-lap challenge, and the three difficult S classes are S6, S7 and S10. S6 is the only bronze for me in the game at the moment.

To clear the A-class F430 challenge I had to do a lot of laps in Arcade. I reckon once you can get around in the 1.56 bracket you're good for a bronze.

No, I'm basking in the glow of getting gold on S10! B8 will come later. S7 gold for me next.

I think I got a quick bronze on B8 on the way through first time, came back and got an easy silver. Gold...well we know about that!

Ahh fair enough. In a twisted way I'm glad you haven't nailed it yet. I hope you don't mind. The truth is if you'd managed to get gold so quickly I may have thrown myself out of my apartment window and onto the pavement below.

Good work with S10!

Sure I understand! I'd have felt the same way about you!

I just had a crack at S7 with my Ford GT. Got a bronze, then was 0.4 behind P1 on lap three and threw it away.

Next session for sure. S7 is easier than S10.

B8 is very hard, make no mistake. Gold there is harder than bronze anywhere else, or most other golds come to that.

luke, I'm planning to buy a dfgt. Have your laptimes (especially on B8) improved since you got a dfgt.

I bought the DFGT at the same time as GT5 Prologue so I can't give a fair assessment, sorry. What I will say is this. If you love your racing you will not be disappointed. It's an incredible piece of kit and fantastic value for money. I absolutely love it and have no regrets at all. I could have gone for a G27 but decided it was too much to spend as my first ever wheel. With the DFGT you get what I believe to be the perfect balance of cost vs functionality. In addition, its characteristics have been engineered with GT5 in mind. With all this in consideration I also strongly recommend a wheel stand pro. Of course if you have a decent desk/table this won't be necessary.

From what I've read across the net, it seems that many drivers can be super competitive with a game pad and can definitely beat drivers with a wheel. However there seems to be a belief amongst many top level racing simmers that in the right hands a wheel will always be quicker than a game pad. If you're willing to really commit yourself to plenty of laps a wheel and pedals is the only way to race. There's nothing like feeling the back end step out in the middle of an apex, wrestling on some opposite lock, and catching the car!

Go for it I say.

I will buy it, but I have nothing to put it on and I live in holland and I can't find a shop that sells them (wheel stand pro).

You need to order the wheel stand pro online. They're manufactured in Poland. If you don't have something stable to mount your wheel on then I wouldn't bother getting one.

Maybe I can make something to mount it on. I'm defenitely gonna buy a wheel.

Yeah plenty of people have put together home made stands with success. Have a sniff around on the net and see if you can find some ideas on how to best go about it.

I will do that, thanks for all the advice and tips you gave me. Do you know how I can make my text an other color?(my signature)

You need to have the tags and and type the words you want in colour in the middle of these tags. You can substitute the word "red" for whatever colour you want.

Make sure there is no space between characters or it won't work.

okay thanks, yellow is not a good color I see. Finally done.
