Clearing the top speed record

As the title suggests, is there any way to clear the top speed record without wiping the entire save file?
I lagged horribly in an online session last night and somehow attained a top speed of 985 mph in a stock 1957 BMW 507.
I would like to clear that top speed, preferably without losing everything I've obtained, especially since I know darn well that there's no way I'll ever break said record, and since I attained it through horrible lag, I would rather not have it to begin with.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, especially if I can somehow clear that without having to delete my entire save file.

I got the same problem. 12,076mph in an 85 rally montero lol

I don't see a way of doing this apart from save file editing, but it's forbidden so I guess you have to live with it.
