Oh My Gawd! Please help!!! :guilty: :(
It's happened! My PS3 switched it's self off! This happened last night at 23:00 hrs, i was just settling down to a couple of hours fun.
I did manage to find out it had 11 gig of data on the old system
So I took the top off to have a look, the dust in there was amazing! I vacumed it out and left it for a good 30 minutes and then restarted it. It did run for about 15 minutes before shutting down again.
So i spoke nicely to the wife and she went out and got me a 160 gig preowned one (with 12 months warranty)
I started my new system up at 18:50 earlier this evening and it's still downloading and updating :
Now, my questions start here:
I cannot restart my old system, i have a spare copy of GT5, because i like it, quite a lot, no i like it loads!
But is there any way i can get the information from my old system?
Is there a way to remove the hard drive from my old unit and plug it into my new Slimline PS3?
Please help, i don't really want to complete all those licences again.

Sorry, but there is no way to transfer the data, other than signing up for PlayStation Plus and backing-up to the cloud.

Try using a thumb drive to transfer the data. go to the 'saved ps3 data' folder on the ps3, find your GT5 save file (there should be a backup file as well).

press triangle and that should bring up a side bar that has 'move copy delete' options,

from here you want to copy the save file to the thumb drive.

now you should be able to put the thumb drive into the new console, got to the ps3 saved data part again, your USB should be recognised, go into it, press triangle again and simply copy the gt5 save file.

this should work for you, because it worked for me the other day when i wanted to transfer my fiances gt5 data to her own console.

if that wont work, try the cloud idea. but the cheapest PSplus you can get is $10

Thanks guy's,
I have passed the B licence now (yawn) and i have a Toyota GT, a Miata, a kart and a Demio, oh and 2m credits to buy something a little better!
I had 900 cars in my garage, now i have 2, a kart and a shopping trolley! :(

Did you not try using a USB drive?

Unless you transfered your saves from your PS3 to a USB, you can just forget your old save. Maybe you have some friends that can spare some vehicles.

Yes you can, plenty of youtube vids showing you how but it won't work for you. Disks are married to a specific PS3 and the first thing that will happen when you move a disk from one machine to another is that the hard disk will be reformatted on the new machine and you'll loose all the data on it.

Best bet is as the guys have pointed out in here, the USB option but that does assume that you can get the old box to stay alive for about 2/3 minutes whilst you copy the game save data.

BTW: you're not alone, my old fat boy threw in the towel last night and it's completely dead with the YLOD. Fortunately I have fairly recent backups of my game saves on a USB drive so hopefully I'll be able to get back to a reasonable point again once I get a new PS3.

Thankyou all, i have tried switching the old also fat (phat?) PS3 on this morning, the red light wouldn't come on, so im sunk! 900 cars 2 x level 40 and 20m in the bank....If i wasn't over 50 i think i'd be pretty upset!

FR me in the meantime & I'll send you a 1967 ticket later. Recycle it 'til you get the Chaparral 2D. :)

Send me an FR - I may have a Midget or two to spare. :D Maybe some other cars, too; anything specific you're looking for?
