EDIT: Could someone move this to Settings and Tunings?

It seems my CLK55 has quite a bit of oversteer. More than what I'm used to. If these settings look okay then it's just me because I'm fairly new at the game and am not perfect yet. If something's wack, please tell me!

CLK55
520 hp (it would have 595, but I thought maybe downgrading to the NA Tune Up Stage 1 might help). All the upgrades (except LTD. slip) including T7 tires and lightweight conversion.

Settings:

Ride Height: 92mm, 100mm
Shock Bound: 7, 5
Shock Rebound: 8, 6
Camber Angle: 2.5, 0
Toe Angle: .5, -.5
Stabilizers: 3, 3

ASM: 0
TCS: 5

Gears: Auto 33

What I'm wondering is if I should buy the limited slip upgrade. Will custom settings stop this oversteer? It's always around SLOW corners, in Trial Mountain/II for example.

Well, now don't get mad at me for saying this, because I usually do not tune my cars closely, I just usually set the ride height, gear ratios, and some other stuff, but my guess might be that the ASM is turned off. Doesn't it stand for Automatic Stability Management? If it does, wouldn't it being turned off reduce the stability of the car, inducing oversteer more commonly? I'm completely guessing at this, and I was curious to know myself too.

Yeah, I was wondering about that. That's why I said if it looked okay, it's just me. My friend, who has been playing GT3 for about a year now never uses ASM, and has told me that if I take the time and learn to drive without it, it'll help me in the end. So the car could be fine, I was just making sure because it seems to be a bit over the top. I just raced Trial Mountain again, and found if I don't slam on the gas out of a corner, but rather ease it on at ~ the apex, the oversteer problem is almost diminished (but I did spin out twice. haha).

Welcome to the world of throttle control! :D Basically, that's what you've gotta do. The analog buttons are there for a reason. You're supposed to go light on them to keep from smoking the back (or front) wheels. Anyways....ASM is bad overall. Where you're having a few oversteer problems now, ASM creates a LOT of understeer problems because it believes oversteer is evil. So, you would be constantly slamming into the outside wall (or that stupid rock on trial mtn) with ASM on. So, it's probably better to learn to control the throttle and countersteer a bit.

Actually, lucky me, I'm using a Logitech Wheel; the same one that's in the GT3 manual. My friend is letting me borrow it, and so I should have almost no excuse (other than I'm still kind of new) for my heavy foot.

Thanks a lot everyone, I guess I'll be working on throttle control more then when racing.

Well, there are a few things here...

First off, put your toe at 0 & 0.
Negative toe creates oversteer.

Second, put your ride height at an even number or with the front higher than the rear. Putting the rear higher will also create oversteer.

Third, reduce front camber just slightly, and increase rear camber to about 1.0. (increased rear camber will decrease rear end slip)

Fourth, set your rebound and bound to even numbers. (10 all the way around)
Don't get into odd settings for rebound/bound until you are well versed and know what you need for each specific track. (10 all the way around works for all the tracks really well. However, once you really know what your doing, slight changes can help greatly.)

Fifth, check your springs.
Springs are the key to over and understeer.
High rear springs & low front springs creates oversteer.
Low rear springs & high front springs creates understeer.

Sixth, adjust all the other settings to fit these changes.

If I may suggest a setup...

6/12 springs
100/100 ride height
10/10/10/10 rebound and bound
2.3/1.0 camber
0/0 toe
4/6 stablizers

19/19 brake balancer

stock lsd settings. *buy the full custom, it will help you with this specific problem.

0 asm (never use asm, it only messes you up, trust me)
5 tcs (this can change when your ready)

Try those settings please.

You may not know me, but trust me, if you ask around you will find out that I not a bad guy, and I am even fast in some circles.

Good luck, and for real, go try these settings, then come back and tell me what you think, and remember to use these settings to the "T".

Also, make sure you are mindful about the run with these settings, I need to get feed back to correct the problems at this point.

And... if this setup gives you too much over steer, run the springs at 6/10...

Good luck and have fun cause I know these settings will help amazingly. :D

wow.
I ran all the settings you suggested (and I bought the full custom LSD) and what a difference! I may have just been being cautious, but I didn't spin out once (wooooooo) and the CLK55 felt like I would maybe like it in real life.

The only thing is you said set the springs to 6/12... I am hoping you meant 12/6 (front/rear).

I tried 6/12 and the oversteer was still horrible, so I thought there's no way this could be what he meant. After changing it I was very surprised. Before that (I forgot to mention it) my spring rate was something like 17/14.

Thanks a ton GoKents

Awesome dude, very cool indeed.

However,
The springs were not a mistake... gotta realize bud, I run a lot of online racing and for almost every front engine/ rear wheel drive car I setup, I instantly change to a setup that is similar to what I listed for you.

That was actually just a standard tune.
Thankfully you had the sense to reverse those settings after you saw the oversteer the springs induced.
I'm guessing your problem was more related to lsd, camber, toe, ride height and stablizers. Not springs.

But this does touch on one of the finer points I feel exist with in the gt3 settings system.

Start with a nuetral setup, then adjust parts to fix problems.

Anyway, glad some of what I said could help, and keep at it... I must say, if you really do want to learn to run as fast as possible, follow the link in my sig.
It is a great racing series for newbies and pros alike.

Catch you later and have fun with your new settings guide. ;)

Well, I have to disagree with you somewhat. Usually, I try to have just a little bit of oversteer on regular races that I am doing. However, if I'm trying an easy race with a hard car to do it with, or a hard race, I usually try to be safe and try not to oversteer at all. Trust me, I've had a few very annoying oversteer spin-out moments, and I really don't want to take that change again. But then thats just my opinion. ;)
