No offence but why do I never see any standards in the polls? Are they just too unspectacular or you guys don't give a.. I guess you know what word

I'm not saying that the picture is bad or anything and I respect the person's work but, to those people who voted for the LFA at Gion, may I ask why did you vote for that particular picture?

I just want to know your opinions. :)

I can't remember who took the photo but they managed to make it look edited without any actual editing, that will always count highly in a PMC competition, everything about the picture comes together as well, the ghostly matte colour, the dimmed vignetted lighting around the edges, the composition and location, they all frame/show off the car whilst showing that theres also depth to the picture from the alleyway behind.

It's hard to get in a PMC poll with a standard due to the poor rendering of the cars which because you can't fix that without editing counts against it - especially when viewed full-size. You have to compensate by taking an especially spectacular shot with the standard car making sure all elements of a good photo (composition, angles, aperture, exposure, etc...) combine to make it stand out.

the highlights are very bright and the shadows are very dark and there are no sharp shadows only smooth differences in lighting

Okay, I guess I can see your point, but what really bugs me though is the white reflection on the hood, just like all those freaky white reflections you usually get with a matte black car. And with 'matte' being the theme, I thought a picture would have to be displaying the specialty of matte paint, like how it brings out the curves and lines of a car.

Ah well, different perspectives I believe, and I respect that. :)

OK, sorry for raging a little there :guilty: gotta focus on the other week then, have a good idea..

Wow, just got home, looked at poll, voted... Was not expecting that to be so one sided whatsoever!!!

 "Cool" Cat kudos @ mastered use of the cool filter - again! 👍

Composition, depth and focus, then - lighting and filter, h2h chrome doesn't stand a chance! ;)

Let me be the first to look forward to next weeks theme!

Too dark?? Okay... If you say so...

but thanks.

ijkhk4 is absolutely right! It IS too dark and would be a bit better if zoomed out a bit more.
But it looks pretty realistic, what I like. It's just the whole composition that makes it kind of.......well, bad. :indiff:

And I have to agree with youtimestwo. CCShaft deserves the win to 100%
I wonder why people even voted for other pics. His shot stands out by miles!!!!

Awesome job CollCatShaft! :)👍

I'm amazed , really ...at the amount of votes  guys for those kind comments, its so appreciated esp when you get the opinions on why? what? people like about your shot.

Fascinating also to see it sparks a little debate amongst some..... this is what I love about the comps because one persons wow is anothers meh..

Cheers 👍 mitch :dopey: and @youtimestwo... thanks :) but I never count that far ahead, apart from one sort of good tourney run my H2H record is a bit shaky to say the least

I love (and voted for) the lamborghini. Something about that image just draws me. I am curious as to why (no offense to the photographer) the LFA is winning, myself, but that's up to opinion isnt it? lol -- It is a very nice shot, dont get me wrong. I just thought there were better ones.

That said, it would've been my 3rd choice. Lambo, first, obviously (i stated that I had voted for it earlier); the G35 @ Kyoto would be 2nd for me, and 3rd would be the LFA, in my opinion.. but again; that is only my opinion.

Sorry if my comment does not satisfy what you are looking for.

No problem! :)

I see the tunnel of the High Speed Ring does not work, even if the car has bright colors. lol :p

just add brightness. Use the last option next to the aeLock icon. Push that up a bit and you'll have better light shown. Or, utilize the AE lock; zoom into a dark space, wait a second, hit the aeLock and then zoom back out; the lighting should be a bit better then.

Also, I usually just use the tunnel for reflections. It doesn't do a whole lot for dynamic shots, honestly, it is a fairly dark space.

But for some strange reason, the AE Lock doesn't work in that tunnel at HSR.

Edit: And since I already posted, I'd like to add that I share your opinion on the LFA picture.

I think I'm going to play with the tunnel a bit - but adding brightness manually might be your only choice, if as you say the aeLock doesnt work.

That wouldn't work either. Don't know what went wrong but whenever you're in the tunnel, the exposure settings seem to be broken.

Yeah, it happens sometimes in tunnels, its happened to me at Eiger.
Its all to do with lighting, if theres little lighting in the tunnel the camera cant pull some extra from nowhere so certain alterations will have no effect.
