"This week's theme is rather similar to Week 47 of the 2.0 Competition, but this time you're also allowed to use Photo Mode to take the photo. The only request this week is that the driver must be the focus of the photo, and only Photo Mode and Photo Travel are allowed. "

Your photo didn't make it into the poll because I think the driver isn't the main focus of the photo. The windshield somehow became an 'obstacle' between the driver and the camera, as it reflected a lot of light and made it difficult for the driver to become the focus of the photo.

Your idea is nice, but it doesn't work well with the closed-top cars.

Your entry is a bit dark, and (IMO) the sky behind took the focus instead of the driver (and the car).

Other than that, there aren't any major problems with your entry.

I guess I'll have to explain to you why yours isn't in the poll...

To me, your entry featured too much speed, and the outcome is an entry without anything focused, even though your camera is zoomed to the driver.
The camera is a bit low too, but that isn't really a problem.

To enter a poll, you'll need time, patience and experience. Don't give up, just keep trying!

Just a quick tip -at least to get into the poll- NEVER, and I'll say it 2 times, never use photos from the archive.

(and if you can try to look a the judge's gallery, you'll see more or less his preferences) 👍

If you look at it full-sized, as it is meant to be seen. The windshield becomes a non-issue. I'm sorry, but this poll is a bunch of drivers in almost the exact same pose.. it irritates me a bit. If you want "drivers standing in foreground of car with stig-stance" .. then you're right i've lost the idea of this one..

Honestly, I think I'm just more irritated because it was a PITA to get that shot to not get in the poll.. lol

To be quite honest, I think that should be in the polls rather than mine. I'm surprised I made it into the poll at all. I didn't feel all too confident with that picture, especially with all the other good photos that I thought were much better than mine, I was going to use this one: http://www.flickr.com/photos/66659980@N04/7976725324/ but something just seemed off about it. Anyways, I won't complain about being in the poll obviously, it is all in the eye's of the beholder (judge). And everyone has a different taste.

I'll also agree that suzq044's shot seems to fit the theme to a tee. However, like Chad D. says, it's up to the judge. I hope you keep posting though, new contributors are a good thing.

My 2 cents is to be prepared to be baffled and frustrated a lot if you plan on being a regluar contributor the competitions.

Personally, I've gotten pretty lucky with the polls lately, but like Yauma9, pretty much no one votes for me.
Most of the time though, the competition is very tough.

It's something I'll keep doing until it's no longer fun though.

You know, if you also want to get votes what you would want is to see the PMC winners (photos), and the galleries (is it spelled correctly?) of their creators. 👍

(Altough I've not done the latter, but I'll do it)

Your entry got into the poll because of the car/suit colour combination, which, to me, looked very nice, and the use of the Partial Colour filter made it look even better 👍

Sorry, but I don't think viewing your entry in full size has completely solved the problem, for the driver is still quite not focused...
I choose the entries (which are now in the poll) by seeing if they fit the theme, and whether (IMO) they are great photos overall (e.g. the composition in them).
I can't blame on you if you don't like the entries in the poll though, as everyone has their own opinion and view, which sometimes differ a lot.

I am rather surprised though, as there aren't many entries that have used Photo Mode.

I would think that given GT HP Nut explicitly stated focus on driver, that shot just fell short of this basic requirement because he was shooting through a windscreen, which took out much of the attention on the driver, let alone being good enough in his opinion to be in the poll

Complaining about photo similarity further illustrates a lack of understanding of the theme, no? Driver focus... He can either be driving, or "Stig-ing". Not much else he can be doing.

The theme was going to produce some Photo Travel photos of a similar nature right from the start. Which is completely fine of course. Color choices, composition, lighting, etc become bigger factors than normal.


I made the poll (I think I'm 3 for my first 6 or something) but generally don't get too many votes. Still having a good time with it though and I will continue submitting and voting. I don't think I will spend time glancing at judges galleries however. I take my style photos for the theme, not ones aimed at person A or B hopefully liking it. If they do like it, great!
