I noticed others reporting this on the g27 thread, but I can say it's happening with the fanatec as well.

I got so fed up, I even videoed a session to see if I could determine the problem... as it felt random. I then played for ages on time trial to see if I could tell what's going on.

One thing the videos show, is the timing is very sensitive... On some occasions I could see an obvious timing issues, others it was hardly noticeable.

For me , it seems to happen if I don't engage clutch before disengaging gear.
I.e. When you get the sequence
Disengage gear, N, clutch down, select gear, clutch up.

This does tally, with the fact I notice I most frequently misshift when either
- it's a rushed change ... So I'm shifting and clutch simultaneously
- it's a very casual change e.g. 5 to 6 , and I think I'm not thinking too much :)

I tried to very consciously press clutch for disengaging gear, and seems to work... but very easy to forget, and do simultaneously.

unfortunately, it doesnt seem to be clutch sensitivity, as I've noticed on the fanatec clubsport pedals, having it 50% is enough... I suspected originally it required 100%

Any other ideas out there?

Are people still using clutch ?

I always use the clutch for all disciplines including Gymkhana.

The first hour or so was rough, but after a while its started to feel natural.

I believe using it gives you a slight advantage... clutch drops/kicks, and heel-toe are always usefull techniques for proper rally racing and gymkhana.

Cool,

I still can't get it reliably, and find myself watching the gear indicator more than the road :(

But good to hear someone has found you can get into a rhythm, perhaps there is hope for me yet :)

@Tech.

Nice too hear your using a Fanatec. Not heard or read much about it TBH.

What degrees of rotation are you using?
Seems like the default angle is a tad too short.
Maybe a 540 would feel better.

My CSP is not well so I can't try it.
G27 is ok but I'd like more angle. It feels too responsive at the wheel centre.

I have been using clutch and have had few problems with the g27. There have been a few (more than I can count with my hands) where it hasn't engaged a gear but that is to be expected after playing gt5 and more notably, iRacing.

@Spag

I'm using 270, as that seemed to match in game wheel and seem to work well.
(note: I'd already set in game linearity to 0, I'd did this from the outset, but others have complained that the default 4 was too twitchy)

Im really enjoying the game, good ffb , my only minor gripes are the clutch, and doing donuts/spins in gym ;). But the rally and circuit is loads of fun.

Yes I've knocked the linearity down a bit.
I noticed the odd miss shift but you do have to fully engage clutch whilst shifting.

After driving a variety of vehicles in work with odd personalitys. Once I get to know the required inputs needed I'm usually good to go.

Maybe a patch which allows only 60% travel would get people's miss shifts sorted.

I'm glad I'm not the only one, I haven't had much time with the game (4 day weekend starts woohoo), but I'll will be playing a lot now.

I try and shift fast and always miss a gear, and it makes it even harder because it is rally so you have even less time to prepare for a corner. This game is hard and the clutch having to be fully depressed upsets me, but it is a great game and I will keep using H-shifter and clutch.

G27-PS3

I'm gonna keep on practicing, as oldskool says, its tricky for some of the fast changes required.

I'm also not so sure it's about full depression, I played around in the compound and found that there I could shift with only about 50-60% clutch.

Let me know if you find something, till then more practice ... Fortunately it's still fun practicing :)

Ok, spent an hour practicing this, and think I have found MY issue.
Short answer : I need to ensure clutch is always engage fully, before disengage gear.
( actually, I consciously think, clutch then gear )

The way practiced and found useful, is do time trial, head 2 head, Monaco, marina face off - this is a great track, as is tight and has lots of gear changes.

Then I played with different theories, and despite the fact I have found that you can usually do disengage gear then clutch, I found at racing speed it doesnt work.
But found that if I forced myself to do clutch first ( rather than simulatenously as normal) i get hardly any miss shifts... Of course this might not be the real reason, it maybe just this gets me the right rhythm.

I'm going to try a few more tracks (as I've noticed if I know the course, miss shifts tend not to happen as much) , and also cars to see if the rhythm works for all cars or has to be adjusted.

Have a go, think clutch gear clutch, and see if it works. After a while, the slow process actually is quite quick.
Also remember you can shift up, without lifting throttle though as far as I can tell it makes little difference, I'm thinking there might be some auto rev matching going on.
( of course if you do this, it will probably mess your style up for gt5 :))

Ok, great news, it works... now I rarely get miss shifts, and have even started pushing up the difficulty slider :)
Not quite confident enough to heel n toe as well, but that's next.

Has really upped my enjoyment of the game.

Btw, whilst practicing I turned off the HUD so i didn't focus on the dial, now Im using no HUD in races and I highly recommend , it's fanastic along with the cockpit
(though quite hair raising with trailblazer in the snow on an unfamiliar track)
