http://blogs.pcworld.com/staffblog/archives/003251.htmlPC WorldJames, his wife Kati, and their two daughters left for Thanksgiving vacation in the Pacific Northwest nearly two weeks ago, and never returned. The family car was stuck in snow on an unplowed road, and was unable to get out. The family used the car heater to keep warm, and burned tires when the fuel ran out. Saturday, James Kim left to find help. He had two lighters with him, and was wearing tennis shoes, pants and a heavy coat, but no hat.
Kati Kim and her daughters were found near their car on Monday, and were released from the hospital in Grants Pass, OR on Tuesday.
Today at 3:03 PM ET (12:03 PM PT), James Kim's body was found. Searchers are attempting to remove his body, and the family members have asked that their privacy be respected.
I am heartbroken. Search for this family had been the biggest news in Oregon for last week or so. When the searchers found Jame's wife Kati, and their two daughters, I thought it was a miracle. I think it had been 9 days in middle of freezing wilderness. I have heard that the mother actually used breastfeeding to keep the young daughters alive.
I wanted to post this story as reminder to everybody. Don't take chances in wilderness that can endanger your lives. As it was reported, Kims' were in a hurry, running late. They took a chance by going on a lonely highway that's not even completely paved, and got stuck in middle of nowhere, leading to this tragedy. If they had only turned around.
