When Carroll Shelby decided to sell Cobras with a Ford 427, workers at the factory were making bet everytime a customer came to take the 427 car he ordered because they knew this car was so dangerous and impossible to drive! :dunce:

The bet was to give the right numbers of days before the car was returning at the factory to be repaired or rebuild...

Now, after reading that in an excellent books about the Shelby Cobra, I took my blue 1967 Cobra 427 on the infineon Sport (Point Sears original circuit):
- with road tires,
- no driving aids,
- no weight and power modification (>>> 491 HP, 1068 KG),
- Arcade mode (time trial).

After 45 minutes of lapping, I did only 6 or 7 clean laps. This car is so hard to keep on the track, you have to be very careful with the gas and brakes, it's insane... but it is a great challenge!

And the sound of the V8 Ford is incredible!

And my best time was: 1'47.818

What about you?

Ah a man after me own heart. "If it aint got crap tyres then its no fun" :)

Kinda reminds me of Gran Prix Legends.

Believe it or not I actually got a clean lap in first go although it was only a 1:50 I was pleased with that. Took me about 12 laps to beat your time 1/2 of which were spent on the grass. Then I really had to work on it to get into the 46's with probably another 20 laps.

Eventually..

22.649 / 1:09.061 / 1:46.808

Theres probably a 1:45 in me if I can master drifting her as I swear she will get round thelong downhill left hander faster sideways.

I've just realised I drove the English AC Cobra.. 478 bhp 1311 kilos
Wheras you drove the American Shelby Cobra.. 484 bhp 1068 kilos

(bhp & kilo figures taken from replay screen)

One other thing I never realised before regarding tyres: Go to arcade time trial and choose as I did road tyres then you get RD shown in the replay however you actually have normal sports tyres when you look in the quick tune option.
To get normal road tyres you have to go into the quick tune and select them regardless of what you first chose. They then show as N2 in the replay.

So, were your tyres RD like mine? If so try the AC and I'll try the Shelby. Lets make this a two car battle eh?

In the Shelby.. 23.407 / 1:09.583 / 1:47.053

Took me perhaps 30 attempts to get under 25 secs for the first sector trying something different every couple of goes until I nailed it.

Now I'm really hooked on this Shelby.

22.813 / 1:08.475 / 1:45.908

Pity no one else is

Fed up of chasing my own ghost I've posteed this on a few other boards with more to add soon. I'll keep this post updated with the leaderboard.

so we are using N2's right?
or can we use N3's

Choose normal road tyres in the first options box and you dont need to even enter the quick tune options. The replay shows the tyres as RD.
Look in the quick tune options and you'll see they are normal sports tyres.

I just rediscovered this thread I started before going in Europe (holidays)!

Now I am CRYING because of this nice post...
1:40.521 !!!! How the hell he did that time? :dunce:
I cant believe it, I hope everybody is driving the same car with the tires I choose on Arcade mode!

I think I have to practice a lot...

Anyway, every challenge with good old crappy tires is a very nice entertainement!

New lap time soon...

Wity
I wondered where you'd got to.

Here's eclipsee's run. Dont cry too hard ;)

x-port replay.

.wve video 12 meg

I'm dying to see this video... but my computer is unabled to open and play it!

Can you send it thru as a document via my email: homepageone@yahoo.ca?
Maybe it will work...

BTW, your PM box is full!

Emailed it but it's bounced back saying it's too big for your yahoo.ca to accept.

Should not be any different anyways. If you still cant watch it check out you have the up to date windows movie player. Other than that check you dont have any graphics card settings overwriting it somehow. I could not play it earlier it crashed but I found I had to disable something in the nvidea settings that I'd installed moments before.

Emptied my pm stuff BTW.

Thanks for your help (even if it is not positive)!

Not seeing the video is not a big deal anyway... but after another 1 1/2 hour laptime session, I didn't even reach my proper best time (1:47.XXX)... I am more than seven seconds from the best time on your post, it is desesperating! :nervous:

And I am sure I have clean laps with very nice driving lines. What frustrate me is that in the most other laptimes comparisons, I am not so far and sometimes I am very close to the best ones.

And about tires: I confirm that I use the RD Road Tires (not the confort or economy ones!) on arcade mode or the N3 tires (not the S tires) on time trial...

After around 7-8 laps, i've been able to pull a clean 1'45.987 using the DFP and exact same settings set by nurburgring (Arcade, RD, no mod, no aids). I feel I could still be able to do 1-2 seconds better, but i'm a little tired today. This is a real challenge to keep this car on the track. ;)

Here are my sectors times:

T1: 23.280
T2: 1'09.256

nurburgring, try downloading here, maybe this helps.

Thanks, eclipsee!
Finally, I could analyse this video... but I am still not convinced about the road tires: If you put the pedal on the metal in second gear, at least one tire will spin even in a straight line...
I did a little bit better yesterday: 1:46.464 BUT with strong feedback and no power assist on my DFP... And I can save an other second.

oooh, hekke passed ramon. wowzers. one of these days i'll fire it up again. i really didn't give it enough of a chance and i'm pretty convinced i can go under 42. that's going to be tough though. my 42.6 had a bad first and last sector but my second was pretty dead on. i'm certain on that particular lap that i lost .7 in first and last sectors. even so, top 5 ain't all that bad i suppose. very hard to link all 3 sectors with the car so variable. it would likely take a ton of driving not to build up the skill, but just to get lucky and throw the sectors together that one time. i estimated my top time would be 41.5 (same as hpdrifter and holl01 no dount, excpet they likely max out even faster than that), but it would take 6-8 hours and i'm just not driven to put that kind of time in anymore. for sure this was one hell of a good time though. thanks for the excellent and entertaining car/track combo. laters.
