I am about to Start building a cockpit for my G27 and just want some opinions on my plans. All suggestions are welcome and be honest for the better or for the worse. Its designed off of a Mitsubishi evo X.

Thanks in advance.

Very much alike Chilicoke's but it's obviously a good design. Go for it! Also keep us updating on your build. I have a Playseat but I kind of want to fabricate my own rig.

Hmmm... looks a lot like this one

If your wanted opinions or ideas, you should've just asked the guys that have already built that rig. Chili and I are on here regularly (well, I am... not so sure about chili as of late).

You didn't need to start a new thread. You have obviously found both of ours at this point and made all the notes you needed, you could've just asked for a few pointers or, problems we may have incurred during the build. Additionally, how to avoid them or strategize accordingly would be helpful as well.

However, to each their own I guess. If you want to go through this whole process over again and ask everyones opinions again, feel free. Otherwise, try this thread to get your answers - https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=125647

First off, Frozzy thanks for you're kind reply. However, for the second reply i have never seen You're cockpit (very nice), and also am new to the idea of forums (appears my first forum experience isnt a good one) and just found the search function. Also, you don't have to be such a hypocritical D!%* as you started a thread for the same reason, sorry if i offended you. Thanks for your link; however, your presentation could be a little nicer. BTW i did use Chilicoke's cockpit idea, but made it to the dimensions of a mitsubishi Evo X.

Looks good to me :)

I wonder if a cup holder would fit, even if it could go behind the handbrake maybe? Also have you thought about a buttkicker?

Lastly as with the photo posted above, it's quite hard to get anything cut out to perfectly match the G25/G27 shifter piece. One day you might want to change wheels too, so it could be good to have the option there.

Anyways, those are just some thoughts :)

Firstly, welcome to the forums! :) (Sorry for the (one) lousy welcome you had).

I have also built a cockpit based around Chilicokes design (links in my sig) and would agree with LostBoy; how about a mount for a Buttkicker or two? Adding tactile audio adds soooo much to your build. I wouldn't be without it now. What material are you planning to use?

Apart from that, it looks good. As long as you're happy with it; that's the main thing!

If you need any more help or have any questions, feel free to PM me. 👍

It's obvious that you used Chili's design "as a template", OBVIOUS.

So did I :)

I really was just refering to the fact that your starting a new thread is counter-productive. With that said, this is only the 2nd time I've ever questioned somebody's motives on a new thread... it is NOT important. There will now be two seperate threads with info closely regarding one-another. The person after you, that copies your design, will play h3ll trying to get all the info they need. I personally don't care, why would I... mine is already built and now working on a 2nd of even more detail. Was just making a point, 'you' went off on a 12 year tangent regarding accusations.

Oh, and if you used the exact specs from a Evo X, why are you pedals WAY to close to the foot pan. Don't forget, the pedals are going to stick out another 5" or so (at a 90* from the mounting plate). Then, your measurements will be from the center of the pedal's contact plate (where your foot hits it) to the floor/seat/wheel. It is obvious that pedal mount is WAY down there in your SketchUp photo. Then again, you could have really small feet... you know what they say about guys with small feet :dunce:
Just kidding; For real though, if you have the pedals THAT far down, you are definently going to need bolt-on pedal cross beams. Welding 'em on would mean that everyone else could never drive your sim. Not that the idea of it being just yyours is a bad one, just sayin'...
Additionally, if your wheel and shifter in the photo are to scale, that would mean that your shifter is about 25" to the right of the wheel and another 15" below the center of your wheel. Of course, that's assuming they are to scale, and why wouldn't they be? It is a 3D rendering of your proposed cockpit. You have long arms my friend, long arms indeed.
One more thing, your raised front area (your foot support). Just a thought here, but... wait for it... it's coming... why? It's not tall enough to fit a PS3 under there is it? If it is, by the mere 1 or 2 mm, you also have to take into accout fitting a 12v fan to keep things cool; or even your amp/sound system. Just asking, if it isn't serving any purpose, why bring it in. Chili has his on there to bring his line of site EXACTLY center of his screen, which is on a entertainment center. You refered to you Evo X but not your entertainment center. If you rasing it, be sure that rasing it is beneficial to your cause. The other side of that means your looking through your wheel a tv too low for your now raised rig.

There's a lot of stuff to consider, take into acct when designing a cockpit... hence my advice to check both of our threads. You'll save yourself a lot of time and aggrivation by taking head from two guys that have already done this (actually three, I like the other thread reply with his link). Exact measurements are key. Don't guess and don't assume; Sure, you can grind out/off mistakes but why? Design it properly and you can cut everything to your 3D schematic.

This is just a rough idea first off. The wheel and shifter are to spec; however, the pedals are not and are just a mock up as of right now. The pedal mounts are going to be bolted on as well. Also i am planing on making a tilting mechanism for the wheel just am baffled on how to do that as of now. The shifter knob is 13" to the right of the center of the wheel and is a little less than 4" below it. Also, i am 6' 4" so yeah i have long arms (and big feet). The raised part will not hold a ps3 or anything it is strictly for height in my setup (shown in the last pic). The pics on here are misleading whereas the dimensions on sketchup don't lie. I'm sorry that we got off on the wrong foot, and didn't want to cause any harm. I was merely trying to find guys like you who have done it to help a noob who hasn't. Any help with the tilting mechanism is appreciated.

Thanks,
Ben

Glad to hear it, I'd agree 100% with you.

As for the tilt for the wheel, I have a great idea that I'm implementing on my gf's rig. She is 5'11" and I'm 6'3" so it's got to be adjustable. I'll post some pics and details up on my thread regarding it. It is simple, effective and cheap. The biggest thing for me is sound'ness. There will be about 1000watts of tactile vibrasions going through both of our rigs so NOTHING can rattle at all. The slightest bit of play and you'll get a loud ting'ing noise from it. This was designed to not do that, period.

Here is hers (her ideas), before the tilt edit -
