I have noticed that there are a few car on gt5 that have similar interiors IRL but they do not share the same modeling. I was looking into finding a 69 camaro ss because I thought it would be a premium and when I acquired it Its a standard as is the C3 L46 Corvette. But, Both of these cars have interiors (IRL) that are so identical to premium versions (69 z28 and 69 C3 Convertable) that they could have overlapped them. On the SS the only real notice able changes are a badge way over by the passenger door on the dash that reads "SS" instead of "Z28" and the Vettes only the rear veiw would be different. I havent even started on the Skylines(of which we have plenty) and the various Z's and other cars that we have mutiple versions of that atleast one is premium.

Basically you're asking is, why not add premium interiors to standard cars that are similar models?

I somewhat want what you're suggesting, but I don't think it's worth the effort from PD. They need to get to work modeling premium cars and tracks as well as spend time coding for the next Gran Turismo. I think maybe they should even outsource the modeling of content to do better coding for the physics, multiplayer, and menu systems.

If that's the case ^^^, then it isn't possible to simply add the interiors of Premium cars into the Standard cars. It would all have to be done from scratch.

no what i'm saying is why not use the interior modeling from the z28 in the SS since the only difference is a small badge that isnt even visible in cockpit view and do the same for other similar cars.

If they did that, PD would be again criticized by the community for duplicates in the premium car list. I believe there is already two premium Suzuki's of different years but they have the identical models.

Also, you seem to suggest using the premium interior in a standard car, which is not possible (at least i think) because of different 3D meshes and polycount. I would personally like them to do it, as you said a 69 Camaro SS can be made premium with just slight modifications from the Z28 model.

They're not identical at all! One of them has turn signals on its side view mirrors, the other doesn't.

I was thinking about the very same thing recently. There should have been way more premiums that could have doubled up. Small things could have made a big difference.

I also noticed that the blank interiors of the standard cars had the shape of the steering wheel, dash and wing mirrors. All they really need to do is fill in the blanks, even at a low res it would work.

^^^ about the Standard interiors, doing the outlines of the interior correctly is the reason why it took so long. I was hoping they add depth to the interiors, but I suppose that would be even a whole lot more work than only doing the outlines. That's why I'm on the fence on whether or not they should change that for GT5 or leave it alone.

Thing is, it doesn't have to be this car, but I see your point.

no 69 camaro has turnsignals in the mirrors unless it was a custom job. Was playing last night and got the tank car and it was standard but has the interior already modeled why no make the guages work and make it a premium. WTH the arent any blanks to fill there except making the guages work. Also, with the new updates the standard cars aren't noticably different from premiums aside from the lack of interiors.

The Prowler tells us this can be done. 👍

Next up, Fireblade and 2J!

He was talking about the two Premium (and for all intents and purposes identical) Suzuki Swift models.

All it would (basically. There are some minutia) take to give a Standard an interior from a Premium car would be to have the game pair it up with the Standard car when it loads the race. That's pretty much just (since the Standards have the silhouettes now) changing a couple of lines of code to load the Premo interior rather than the silhouette. The interiors aren't locked to the Premium cars because they aren't part of the normal polygonal mesh.

Yeah well thanks for correcting me, I guess interiors are modeled separately because of different LODs?.

But anyway what's the point of putting just an interior in a standard car? Might as well do the exterior too. For example, a premium z28 Camaro interior in a standard SS would be silly, especially considering how only a few changes need to be done to the exterior.

truth be told the exterior parts you see in cockpit view would be part of the interior modeling.

Yes. That's why (among other things) in replays and B-Spec you can only see the interior of your car instead of everyone in the race, because it is a separate bit loaded into the race rather then just the interior that you can see from other camera angles. If you compare the interiors of cars where the interiors can be easily seen, you can see that the interior of the car when viewed from views other than the cockpit view are of a much lower (though still decent) quality.

In addition:

truth be told the exterior parts you see in cockpit view would be part of the interior modeling.
This is also true, which is why there is a glitch that can be seen in the handful of cars where, when you equip things like spoilers, when you look through the rear window you'll see that the spoiler isn't there on interior view because they forgot to add it (off the top of my head, for Premium cars, it happens on the Citroen C4 with the really big spoiler).

That's also why none of the Standard interiors have exterior body parts modeled, because they would have had to add them in (though why they were willing to do it for GTPSP and not GT5 I don't know).

thinking about it they may have used an overlap on another car. The Z06 and ZR1 c6 vettes have the exact same interior minus a small badge on the guage cluster and a badge on the dash near the pass. door the exterior parts are identacle too all those differences equal out to 7-8 lines of code. as for the Z28 the exterior parts seen are the exact same as the SS aside from the racing stripes.

Since the SS and Z28 are so closely matched and you want to drive a premium, why not drive the premium?

^ because the premium doesnt have the same Specs as the Standard. The engine is bigger both in terms of weight and power and that affects power to weight ratio and weight distribution.

I'm guessing it has to do with the painting option in GT5, in GT PSP all the colours could be made as separate models but this time round there are a couple of thousand exterior colours available for each car so it's obviously out of question.

What If I told you

In most games the interiors you see from the outside are not the same you see from the inside.

Usually Devs use more detailed 3dmodels for interior view. They don't have to build stuff from scratch. They could just select the interior LOD they need, and copy paste in a standard car.

That doesn't make any sense unless they (for who knows what reason) hard-coded the colors to the textures for GTPSP.
