Right. I have absolutely no idea where this topic belongs so I shall post it in the Computers, Electronics & The Internet subforum. Move it if you wish, mods.
Anyway, my problem is that last year, I got a Coleco Telstar Alpha, being the retro collector that I am, and found that it came with no AC adaptor. So, I reluctantly went and got some brand-new C batteries and shoved them in. I decided that it would be a good idea to try it on a CRT TV first, just because it seemed like a good idea. I turned it on, and BAM!
The picture was f:censored:ed up. I changed around the fine tuning and and it still didn't work. The colours were either both turned to grey and and made even more illegible by lines going down the picture or the right colour, but scrolling and wobbly also making it impossible to play. The problem changed when it was rotated and I once got an acceptable picture, but the unit was upside-down and pointing away. Then I nudged it and it went messed up again. Also, as the picture keeps on changing from terrible to even worse and back again, the unit keeps on resetting and the scores changed permenently to 15-all from what I can barely make out. If I change the difficulty or sport or move the knobs, the screen messes up to a different pile of faecal matter.
EDITY, SHMEDITY: I also tried it on a nice new HD Samsung through also through the RF and it was even worse!
As this is happening, I think it may be due to batteries being used or internal damage. I do hope it is the former. So I am wondering: is it damaged or just needing an AC adapter? If so, where can I get one and how much will it cost? If it is damaged, please tell me how to fix it without too much Emmett Brown-speak. I have read that it can use an Atari 2600 adaptor on some other forums, then someone asked if the insides would get fried and got a nonsensical response, and that was for the Telstar Arcade, not Alpha.
So, please could someone help, but remember, it needs to be for the UK, not US one, so thanks in advance!
