I was just reading 1-AA.org, and I picked up this article: { http://www.i-aa.org/article.asp?articleid=80030 }. The article is as old as Monday last week. So it seems like the NCAA is wanting to unite both divisions into one by calling them all as Division 1 institutions. Now, this doesn't mean that the National Championship game will come down to Texas vs. Montana or USoCal vs. James Madison. All it means is that the new designations will define the teams involved. The 1-A crew will be known as part of the Bowl Subdivision, or BS. The 1-AA crew will be known as the Championship Subdivision, or the CS. The structure behind the designation is perhaps to unite both levels of Division 1 football while designating 1-A and 1-AA in seperate divisions. If there was TRUE unity, then this would be like basketball. In basketball, it's simply Division 1 for schools like Michigan, Ohio State, Texas, Miami (FL), Massachusetts, and the like. And you'll even see 1-A football schools compete against schools who are in Division 1-AA in football in basketball. Of course, there are also schools with football teams up against non-football schools like St. John's, DePaul, Gonzaga, Illinois-Chicago, College of Charleston, and the like.

It all seems a little more confusing. We'll all have to get used to it sometime later in December when the new namesakes will be used officially. Like to weigh in on this deal? You're free to in a post.
