GTPlanet, time for the final week of the regular season of college football. After this, most of the television coverage will shift from college football to college basketball. There will still be some great action before the Bowl Game season comes underway.

Of course, here's the rundown. Each game will be titled. If you see a "@," the game is a rivalry match. If I have a score, I'll put it in [brackets]. Within the brackets, the HOME TEAM is in capital letters. Since this is a special week, expect no Division 1-AA or lower games in this one. The thread will begin with the conference championship games, starting with the Mid-American Conference, then the SEC, then the Big XII. Other than that, keep reading on.

STORYLINE:
With the college football regular season coming to an end, there's still great action. Do you want a good example? How about having President George W. Bush with the coin toss? One last week of action before the bowl games. So who'll get the last laugh? Remember, he who laughs last laughs best.

(NOTE: At the time of this reply, the game between Michigan State and Hawaii will be in a seperate post as the game is still in progress as of the posting of this reply.)

CHAMPIONSHIP GAMES

*+x Mid-American Conference: Detroit, Michigan, USA x+*

"MAC Daddies" Toledo vs. Miami (of Ohio) Motown, baby! Thursday night, Toledo and Miami OH hit it off in MoTown. Toledo needed a win to take down the defending MAC champions, Miami OH. Miami University kept the game close, but Toledo rocketed their way to the 2004 MAC Championship.

TOLEDO => ??
Miami OH => ??

*+x Big XII Conference: Kansas City, Missouri, USA x+*

"CU Later!" Oklahoma vs. Colorado Oklahoma is the #2 team in the nation while Colorado is unranked. Kansas State was the defending Big XII champions, but with a dismal season, they dropped to last place in the Big XII North. The Iowa State Cyclones had to put away Missouri Tigers to get to KC, but a pick in the endzone in the second overtime put their chances to rest. Colorado made it to Arrowhead Pond (Chiefs country) so we have our matchup. And uh... hate seeing OU win all the time? Too damn bad! They did it again, looking to take down the mighty sequia that is USC.

Oklahoma => 42
Colorado => 3

*+x Southeastern Conference: Atlanta, Georgia, USA x+*

"At it Again" Auburn vs. Tennessee Once y cero. 11 and 0. That's what can happen when you're the #3 team in the nation and beaten three tough rivals (Tennessee, Georgia, and Alabama). Rarely in life does one get second chances. Tennessee has the biggest second chance in years. After being intercepted 6 times at Neyland Stadium against rivals Auburn, the Volunteers bring the Rocky Top spirit to the ATL to meet up against Auburn. Could they take advantage? You know, this was one of the best games of the week as Tennessee kept the game close but could have won the game had it not been for penalty after penalty.

Tennessee => 28
Auburn => 38

DIVISION 1-A Games

*+x GAME OF THE WEEK x+*

"To Protect and Serve" Army vs. Navy This is a big game, folks! Maybe not Michigan/Ohio State big, but a rather patriotic rivalry putting together two proud programs. It must be an honor to have George W. Bush come to the game and watch some exciting action. But the only thing the Army won in this game were the cool "Beat Navy, Go Army" commercials. This was not even close. Navy finishes 9-2 and going to a Bowl Game.[42-13; Navy]

"Los Angeles" USC at UCLA Southern California is the #1 team in the nation, and can clinch an entry into this year's Orange Bowl by beating cross-town rivals, UCLA. The game is played in Pasadena, CA, USA at the beautiful Rose Bowl. Beautiful how? The lovely surroundings and the wonderful fan atmospheres make this a lovely place to play. The skies weren't lovely, and neither was UCLA after the first play resulted in about a 55-yard rushing touchdown. This game was surprisingly close, but USC sealed the deal as they picked off UCLA inside a minute left. [29-24 Southern California]

"Red Hot Performance" Louisville at Tulane The Cardinals of Louisville went down to Louisiana to face Tulane. This is a battle of Cardinal Red vs. the Green Wave. Unfortunately, Tulane were looking to upset Louisville, but when they woke up, it was only a dream as Louisville purely dominated. [55-7 Louisville]

"No Sunshine When She's Gone" Virginia Tech at Miami Miami knew the Hokies were going to be a big obstacle to whether or not Miami enter the Top 10. Having said that, the game was played at the good ol' Orange Bowl. I never realized the settings were so beautiful with the city and some boats in the distance. Should see some overhead shots if you get a chance. Anyhow, beautiful Miami, but anything but beautiful as Virigina Tech cleans up by two field goals. It was a good game as the scoring was close, however. Miami finishes with an 8-3 record (5-3 in conference) as VT are the ACC Champions. [16-10; Virginia Tech]

"Reppin' the Big East" Pittsburgh at South Florida First Memphis blows them out in Conference USA, now Pittsburgh. South Florida playing at Raymond James with the Buccaneers and being beaten by the Pittsburgh Panthers. This game was a makeup game thanks to the hurricanes (the real ones, not Miami) that impacted Florida. [43-14; Pittsburgh]

"Gold Bowl" California at Southern Miss Brett Favre recently had his 200th consecutive start. All the while, his alma mater (Southern Miss) meets the PAC-10's California Golden Bears. Girls love bears. They're cute, cuddly, and can throw mad touchdowns. Ladies, you can't have these bears, I'm afraid. They are #4 in the nation losing only one game (USC), and to keep their bigtime BCS bid intact, they need to beat Conference USA's Southern Miss Golden Eagles. Well, it looked like an upset, but California were too tough to tame. [California]

MY COMMENTARY

UPSET OF THE WEEK
There were no major upsets, so I'd say lower-ranked Virginia Tech beating higher-ranked Miami.

BIGGEST WIN OF THE WEEK
Pittsburgh will proudly represent the Big East in the BCS.

MOST DISAPPOINTING LOSS
All this year, I've followed this team this yeat, but Tennessee has suffered the most disappointing loss and here's why. I predicted in my mind that Tennessee would make a bigtime shocker by upsetting Auburn. What happened was that Tennessee had several big plays and most of which going for touchdowns or good field position, they shot themselves in the foot with penalty after penalty. If an offsides and offensive holding call didn't happen, the score would have been 35-31 in favor of Tennessee. The lack of discipline prevented a major upset for Tennessee. Good news for both Tennessee and Auburn are that they will go to Bowl Games with Auburn getting the better deal.

OWNAGE OF THE WEEK
Here's a special bit of ownage. Why? Louisville first owned Tulane 55-7, then their ranked BASKETBALL program took down the Lafayette Leopards 98-57! Tulane (NCAAF) and Lafayette (NCAAB) = PWN3D!

GTPlanet, it's been fun doing this. Now it's time for the stars to shine in the Bowl Games. Look forward to my thread devoted to the Bowl Games because that's where I'll do my next bit of reports. I will make updates as to who's headed to each Bowl Game. And as a little bonus, I may consider the Senior Bowl, the 2004 All-Americans, or whatever else I might think about.

"Paradise in Hell" Michigan State at Hawaii Do you love great college football stadiums? You may enjoy this one. Aloha Stadium is home to a wonderful tropical atmosphere, decent temperatures, beautiful Hawaiian hotties, and a great place to play football. The teams in question are the Michigan State Spartans and the Hawaii Warriors. The game was a beatdown on Hawaii, but Hawaii with its Asian-American QB prospect to the NFL put away the East Lansing monsters by a field goal. Hawaii faces UAB in the Hawaii Bowl. [41-38: HAWAII]
