That's odd, you can buy a brand new one from Audi in the UK

Audi UK
Nothing odd, like 0.0001% of vehicles available in estate/wagon trim Europe make it across the Atlantic.

There's an A7 'sportback' available new here though, but it's heavy as hell.

A Mitsubishi Sportback Ralliart would be a good choice.
237 hp @ 6000 rpm, AWD, multi-link rear suspension, and starts at a couple thousand under $30K for the 2011 model.

Lots of space for dogs too ;)

Sorry to hear that, it's a shame that car would be ideal for what she wants.

I drove my turbocharged Miata through two winters in Colorado with all season tires. :p

My suggestion = WRX.

Seconded. If she can fit a dog in an R she can in a wrx, plus it meets all other requirements.

If she can afford it, then she could also opt for the sti.

I think the A6 Allroad might be too big for her, and the A4 Allroad too slow. I can suggest she have a look at the Minis, especially if there's a Clubman S.

I can't suggest to her that she get a Countryman because if she did I'd have to slag her off until the end of time!

A Clubman with snow tires would be a beast in the snow. When I got my winter tires put on with the Cooper I was pretty much unstoppable, it was pretty nice. The Countryman is good but only if you get the S, the Cooper spec one is so under-powered I would guess it would have a hard time with the mountain roads. The only issue is that they are quite expensive for what you end up getting.
