I'm sorry if this is a bad place to post this in these sections of the forums, but this is really the only good place I could think of.

So my dad just ordered Comcast Triple Play today.

The thing is I just bought myself a Sharp Aquos 32" HDTV a little while ago, because of this I obviously want to get HDTV stations.

The package that we ordered was the Comcast Triple Play Preferred bundle. Now does this mean I will automatically get stations in HD or do I have to get the $7.00 add on to get stations in HD? If so what all stations will I get in HD? Also if I did get the $7.00 HDTV add on would they give me a different kind of box, or are all the boxes the same?

I have been really confused on this lately and have done lot's of research on the website but it doesn't do me any good really. The website isn't setup the greatest and doesn't exactly explain things very clearly, so if someone could help me out and explain to me that would be great, because I just want to make sure I get my moneys worth out of my new TV.

Like I said I am sorry if this was a bad place to post this thread. Mods please move it to the preferred section of the forums if it is.

HD channels are not included in the Triple Play bundle. You will have to add them for the extra $7-10 charge. Plus, you will also need to get the HD cable box with the HD package. I believe it's another $10-15 every month.

You will probably get this one (I have it too), the Motorola DCH-3416:

It has HDMI and component out. Since it's a dual tuner DVR, you will be able to record two programs at once or watch one live and record another.

The types of channels differ in different parts of the country but, you can expect most of these:

  • Discovery HD Theater
  • Discovery Science HD
  • Animal Planet HD
  • ESPN HD
  • ESPN2 HD
  • History HD
  • A&E HD
  • Food Network HD
  • Home & Garden HD
  • National Geographic HD
  • TNT HD
  • Universal HD
  • MOJO
  • Music HD
  • USA HD
  • SciFi HD
  • TLC HD
  • AMC HD
  • CNN HD
  • Family Channel HD
  • Disney HD
  • Plus all of your local network channels in HD (ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox, CW, PBS, etc.)
  • Plus any local sports channels in HD (Comcast Sports Network, Fox Sports Network)
  • Plus all On Demand content in HD

HBO, Cinamax, Showtime, adult channels cost extra.

Thank you so much that was a very helpful post. I have one more question though. I will only need one box am I right? That would be the HD box?

EDIT: Oh and one more thing. You said I would have DVR but doesn't that cost additional money added on to the HD because the DVR and HD doesn't come together?

You will only need the one box, its a digital HD box. I do believe comcast offers HD DVR together and just HD box with no DVR, not 100 percent because i don't have comcast anymore ( horrible internet, kept dropping off and on ) but my brother in-law has been working there years so i could ask him if nobody knows, but im sure someone will.

Well Comcast has to be better than my AT&T DSL, LOL.

I didn't even know Comcast offered a HD box without DVR. The cost difference must be minimal. I have the HD DVR ($10 a month) and the HD service ($7 a month), that's all you need for HD.

I have Comcast's broadband service as well. I did have problems in the beginning, they're ****ty green boxes outside on the sidewalk were the problem. For the past two years, I haven't had any problems. I get around 15-16 Mbit/s down and a good 1 Mbit/s up.

Alright cool, so my parents don't want hd because they don't have and hdtv yet, but they want the extra channels. They will need a standard non-hd box for the extra channels right?

Yes, and when they decide on their HDTV, then can just upgrade to the HD serivce and DVR. Just stop by your local Comcast service center and you can get the HD DVR and service within the hour.

Yeah Comcast is coming out to the new house this Wednesday and I just wanted to make sure we get the right thing.

Alright everything worked out ok for me. They didn't give me that same box by the way. Which I was kind of upset about because it has a larger hard drive then the one I received. You are able to record alot more with the box you have. They still gave me a box with DVR and HD though. It's just that the box is all silver and the hard drive isn't as big. They will be getting that same box you have in my location soon though, so I'm going to switch to that one once they get them in my town.
