Who said nothing ever happens in New Zealand?

More to the point, is the commercialisation of christmas a problem or does it in fact help include more people of non-christian persuasion in the celebrations?

My view would be that it does, and its great! It offends less people and everyone gets presents. Even though materialism is bad, its not as bad as having religion rammed down everyone's throats! :dopey:

Ok, so there's not a lot to say beyond my first post. I was hoping to get some religious/anti materialism people attacking me, ah well... :/jk:
 
This has an interesting premise.

Religious beliefs and de-sanctification of them has always intrigued me and I think Christmas is a one of the best examples. Nearly everyone in Europe and North (& perhaps South) America celebrate it, yet only about half of them are Christians (that claim to have invented it).

I'm not sure about this year, though. Last year I hated it. This year my family is feuding and I'm being bombarded with TV commercials, yet. . .I have no hostility. Either commercialism has festered into my head, or I've become completely senseless and don't give a damn about any of it.

I also just watched Mel Gibson's monstrosity of a film "Passion Of The Christ", which despite the title is not passionate at all. Maybe that had something to do with it?
