Is GT3 an advertisement for Japanese cars and after market parts, or what?
follow: Japanese cars aplenty, Japanese tracks aplenty, guy with Japanese car sees his performance in non stock KIAmobile = buys parts from Japanese car parts supplier increasing business to Japanese backers of GT3 production.

ermmmm..... ok, nice idea, but what about all the other nationalities then?

Ever heard of "red herring"? That's when they don't want it to look so obvious.

Thank you, Mr. Hickymonster(sp.), if I'm crazy, so are you!

NORTHAMERICANCARSKICKASSFOREVER! :D

Hiya, to explain my thought, here goes. GT3 is a produced by a Japanese game company. Japanese car companies are just across the street. Executives get together, go to lunch and they talk,

Car company exec, " You gonna pay us big money to use our car in the game, because you need cars or you can't make the game"

Game company," no, no, we will be advertising your car so lots of people will buy it and you will make money so you should pay us for part of the games development"

Car company," The auto industry is bigger than the game and you need our car, so what you will have to do is advertise the car and the performance after -market parts so more people will buy Japanese cars, we will "pay" you for part of the games development by allowing you permission to use our car in the game so you can make money"

Game company, "OK, we can work hand in hand to support each other" and goes back to the office.

Gets on the phone,"Germany please, BMW car co."

BMW,"Gutentag, Herr Mitsubishi, sprecken ze Deutsche?"

Game company, "Say what?" and thinks to himself, "Since we have to have this game out in time, even if it's still a piece of crap, maybe it's easier because I'm in Japan to have more japan cars, yeah, that's what we'll do"

Any more questions? No, I' not biased against Japanese, just basically against biased games.

It's their game, they can put the cars they want to in it.

I don't know what percentage of their market is in Japan, but they seem to have decided to emphasize Japanese cars. Perhaps their domestic market doesn't care much for Vettes, Mustangs, and Cobras.

Personally, I would prefer fewer Lancers etc, and more US, Australian, or European cars. But I am enjoying the JGTC cars a lot.

As far as getting them to add more cars, I think a well thought out, polite request would work better than an accusation.

Rick

ps. I think the game is more fun than the commercials :-)

I didn't mean for it to be an accusation, I was asked to explain so I tried a quick easy scenario and I wish there was an American version of the game, anyways, it's my fault for believing GT3 would be an improvement on GT2, and falling for the hype before it's release.

maybe it is easier to get the license/permission from the japanese automakers because gt3 is made by japanese?

or if the other car manufacturers from around would like to show that their car is better than the japanese they should give them permission?

or maybe not?

anyway i do hope there is more cars :cheeburga

Hey, if you don't want to see licensed (and by your definition 'advertised') cars, you can always play Ridge Racer... And we'll be here laughing at you. :p The fact is, any automaker should be glad to have their car in the game, and it's up to PD to decide which cars they want to spend two weeks (each) to model. And obviously, it's up to you to decide if you want to spend your $$$ on GT3. IMO, the quality of the game makes up for any percieved 'bias'...

It would be interesting though to look at the financial aspects of the game and any licensing rights that are in place - either for PD to put cars in the game or for manufacturers to have their cars put in the game.

I would suggest that it varies not by manufacturer, but by model. I mean, why would you have the Subaru Legacy in there if the manufacturer didn't insist upon it? No offense Vat_man, but that car's a POS in the game. Perhaps Subaru said "OK, you can put in the Impreza, but you must also put in the Legacy". Same with the Mercs.

There is anecdotal evidence that GT games have increased sales for manufacturers outwith their primary markets - for example a woman in Texas bought a DB7 from an LA dealer after seeing it in the game.

It must be easier for a Japanese games company to come to agreement with a Japanese car company - especially when that games company is a Sony puppet. But the Japanese car companies seem to be more sensitive to a novel marketing opportunity than some of the European car makers.

I wouldn't go thinking of a game to be some chauvenistic biased advertising material.
After all, it is a game for car lovers and many car lovers love many of the cars in the game.
However, one must accept the fact that the cars included in the game are accredited for their sportiness. And the most importnt fact is that the guys behind the programming computer screens see more Nissans and Mitsubishis than they see other cars.
It is still a wonder that they did include quite a few LM and etc cars like the Zonda, Lister and such.
Also it is crucial that we include the fact that part of the design team is located at The UK where Japanese cars are very popular (actually built as well, like Nissan, Honda, Toyota and if I'm not mistaken Mitsubishi - Carisma-)
So I wouldn't expect to see more Italian cars than Japanese. I could've enjoyed several cars like the F50, Bugatti EB112, MacLaren, BMW M5, Peugeot 106 GTI, VW Bora, Golf GTI...
Anyhow, let's all exhale a deeeeep sigh and settle down for what we have in hand... :(

Or better yet, if it is possible to, locate Kazunori's mail and send him wishlists... (hehhehee swamp him with mail) 😈 😈 😈

As a related point of interest, following the releases of GT1 and GT2, Nissan noted a dramatic increase in the enquiries regarding the Skyline GT-R in the UK. In 1999 (or could be 2000, I'm not sure) this lead to the GT-R being sold through Nissan (UK) dealerships and not through 'grey' importers. It also lead to public thanks to PD in various UK motor magazines.

Having wish lists for GT games is one thing, another is a game's ability to effect RL situations and, in this case, put wicked cars in your local showroom!! For that I know I'm grateful... :D

another angle- what if certain manufacturers are AFRAID to put their vehicles up against the cream of the Japanese turbo-nutters? Maybe thinking it's a Japanese- biased game, and that the designers would never lose honour by disgracing the land of the rising sun in an automotive showdown, thereby making their own cars just that little bit better in the game. Maybe they wouldn't think it would be fairly represented...

Is it late where you are? It's an interesting perspective that takes some imagination, especially when you're in the living room with a DS2 in your hand... ;) :D hehe
