Today after 8 months I decided to compare Prologue's AI vs. GT5 1.10, the updated one. For the test we were runnig similar spec cars and honestly I was impressed by Prologue's bobs. It looks like they are (much) more competitive and alive than GT5. They don't slow dawn at all when you are approaching them, they don't let you pass out of corners like in the "full game", they just keep going and fight for position as in a real race. Furthermore in Arcade mode you can choose the difficoulty level with a slide, if set it to 100 you will race against 750pp cars so take one of them (i.e. a FordGT test car or a Corvette) and try it by your self, you will be amazed. Problem with GT5 is regardless of the car they are using once you are close them they'll let you pass leaving those virtual feets from the throotle making the pass really too easy, expecially while coming out from corners. Even in GT5 arcade mode where AI's supposed to be decent. I wonder why PD didn't keep Prologue's AI, that was just the right one for their game, it was simply spot on. not to mention that good looking dashboard view without any annoying tilts... My tought is that old Prologue had some potential, a shame PD didn't keep good things from it.

My take is that it's a novelty effect but if it's not the case my next take is that you can't please everyone.

Novelty lol, before GT5 as many others users here I finished Prologue, the S class, bought all cars and was running online almost everyday so not to sound arrogant but I know what I'm talking about. Seems like Pd being in a rush to release GT5 in november didn't focus too much on that giving us a sort of WIP AI tamed down for noobs/casual players, completely forgetting about difficulty levels. Maybe fixing this AI requesting some extra coding they don't even bother at the moment. The just told us there are some AI improvements in 1.10 but I noticed something only in seasonal events. As in previous versions, arcade mode or A-spec, once you approach AI they simply stop accelerating out of corners. That's the problem. I just hope we'll find a sort of GT5 spec II next year because next GT will be on PS4, so it means we'll have to wait. Will be sad waiting with such a slow AI considering all the online issues, lag and disconnections from servers after PSN outage.

After not playing it for 8 months which is what you stated in your OP, there's some level of novelty.
