I'm sure this subject has been discussed before, but with no real definitive answer.

When clicking on a preview image in the photomode competitions, do you prefer the link to take you to the 'Lightbox' view or would you prefer to go directly to the full size image?

Personally, I always used to link my photos to the lightbox view, but I've now got a Flick Pro account, so I can link images to their original size i.e. 1920 x 1080 px.

So you can get an idea of both views I've posted one of my photos (hope you don't mind :sly:) linked to both lightbox and full size views:

Click for lightbox and full-size view.

Thoughts?

I think I asked this in a CCCL several weeks ago, didn't get an answer then.
I'm looking forward to see what the consensus is since I'm in the same seat as yourself.

But I think I'm for the full size in the end. But some pictures do look better on a black background. So I think I'll continue to vary what I use.

Well I think I'll change to full-size for now, but like you said Fishy, some photos might be best kept as small as possible to hide colour banding etc

SMfan - I was just after opinions for what people prefer.

How many people have a screen big enough to be able to see the full size? I know i haven't.

screen grab lol

Ah, I did wonder about that, I've just uploaded a full size phototravel photo and it won't fit in my browser even when its zoomed out as far as it allows :dunce:

I always put it to lightbox view. Then if the person wants to view it bigger than their monitor can show them, then they just click on 'View all Sizes' in the top right of the screen.

rpanico, I do always link to this version if I use the full size since it scales it. You can't see how many that have viewed it, but it's go no other direct flaws. But it's nice to have pro to have the choice. And since all your old shots now have the 100% untouched versions can you link them to whatever your preference.

I just use imageshack. I find that it best suits everyone. It automatically resizes to fit the window, and you can zoom in to see it 100% (if it is a direct link.)
Flickr just doesn't do it for me. Lightbox takes a while to load, and the "full size" can't be resized to fit the window, and there is no direct link to see just the image.
Just my two cents.

There is, just right click the full size and hit "Copy image address." The browser will scale the image in the direct link.
