Just wanted to stop by and introduce myself real quick!

I am 25 and live in Knoxville, TN (Go Vols!) and I'll be honest- outside of the occasional NASCAR race, I haven't been too interested in the world of motorsports.

I have been playing this ridiculously fun little drag racing game on my Samsung Galaxy S2. My wife asked me the other night why I liked it so much- I told her I enjoyed customizing the cars, tuning the cars for both 1/4 and 1/2 mile tracks, etc etc. Basically, a fun little time sink.

Well, she sends me a picture message today and she bought me a brand new copy of Gran Turismo 5: The Complete Pack for $19.99. A male coworker of hers plays it and recommended it to her for me. So- I am really going in this game/series completely new with no expectations at all.

I ended up here via a google search trying to learn what I can and I will be honest- it seems like a really fun game. But also overwhelming. So I guess I am joining here to find some tips about playing. Who knows- I may enjoy it so much I end up going out to get a Wheel lol.

And yes, my wife is awesome. But she has ulterior motives. We are expecting our first child in January (daughter!) and she is feeding my "at home" hobbies to keep me home more. And although I don't need them to want to be home- it is nice of her to fuel the gaming fire ha!

Can't wait to get home and play. :)

Welcome to GTPlanet, and I hope all goes well with your first child! 👍

Welcome to GTP.. I too was quite addicted to that drag racing game on my S2. You will really enjoy GT5 I am sure. 👍

Thanks for the welcomes and congratulations!

So- GT is pretty awesome. I am absolutely loving it. Now I have been bitten by the "Wheel/Shifter/Pedals" bug and have been eyeballing some online... Ha.

Which wheel did you buy? The DFGT?

I haven't bought one yet. Just looking around. I have been looking at the G27 and the DFGT. If my wife and I weren't expecting, I would buy one with no hesitation. But my wife may frown on a $200 purchase with the baby being so close to being here ha. Although- she did buy GT5 for me ha...

its going to open your eyes to the rest of the world of motorsports

I can definitely see that happening. I just finished the beginner and intermediate Jeff Gordon NASCAR schools in the game and I really had no idea how much strategy and physics(duh) is involved. I kinda want to watch a race now... lol.

I had a great 4 hour session last night. My OCD is coming out a bit I think lol- I keep pushing myself to get the Gold for all of the License tests and races. It is a ton of fun.

Oh and I don't think I realized just how deep the game is with tuning, customization, etc. It is much more than the "unlock some cars" if you want it to be.

I removed the DLC cars I received simply because I wanted to experience going through earning, unlocking, and buying cars and not just have them all handed. I am sure it will help extend some of the play length I have with the game. :)

This is good.. Keep at it as that will really help you become faster.. Once you got a bit more into the game maybe consider taking a look at the WRS (Weekly Race Series) https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=117

Here you will be able to see your pace against others 👍

Hey man fellow Knoxville neighbor! Sad news about Dooley the other day. If you race online hit me up, I am totally new on GT5 myself.
