I have an LCD TV/PC monitor with a native resolution of 1024x768 and I've hooked up my PS2 to it. I'm currently using the standard composite connection and the games look like crap because the monitor has to interpolate so much to achieve the resolution of 640x480. My question is will the ps2 run at a higher resolution with component connections, because my monitor also has those. Is there any other way to make it run at a higher res without those VGA converters?

Short answer no.

Giving the LCD brand would help.

Nearly all LCD PC monitors dont like being run on anything other than their native resolution. Some newer monitors have technology that allows running of other resolutions but still keep that image quality. My Samsung 172x runs fine at other resolutions but I mostly run it in its native 1280x1024.

It's a Zenith inteq, but I figured out a way to make the games look much better. I just used my old winTV pci card and now the video looks great :)

When using a TV card with the PS2, I must, again, recommend using DScaler - it makes a world of difference in picture quality !....

Dscaler Linkage

It's free btw...
