It's been brought to my attention at school, that we should know what we ultimately want to be in the future. I know I want to be in the computer trade, but I don't know what's out there.

I personally don't know what I want to do in the computer feild. Anyone know where I can find a list of computer related occupations?

Visit the websites of some local colleges. They should have a list of their courses.

I plan on on being either a systems or network admin.

I'm going to try to do cryptography or network security or something along those lines.

I'm studying Information Systems and how to design them. It's pretty neat. I'm leaning towards either becoming a Systems Analyst or a Programmer/Network Administrator.

Since i'm going into High School next year i'm getting into a magnet program that has to do with lots of stuff about computers. (Web Design, Graphic Design, etc.) After that i'm not sure.

They had programs at my HS like that. Albeit they were pretty crappy but I did manage to learn SQL and Java via the Oracle Internet Academy. Check that out if you can get into it.

We have Networking, Computer Science, and CAD classes here, but I'm too busy with academic classes to find a slot for them. My theory is that it'll be easier to just concentrate on academics so that I can get into a good university, then take all the fun computer classes at whatever university I land in (and I'm assuming they'll have better computers/software than my high school's). Anyway, a number of the best programmers and the like are self-taught, so…

I've known about those kind of classes here in Ca. I feel like I got jipped now since I had to learn all these cad programs on my own... :grumpy:

Toyo: 👍

I was going to do some kind of computer related career, or so I thought for the longest time. Granted, I'm not graduated quite yet (standardized tests are in march, actually), I have felt that lately what I really should be going into is Sound Engineering. However, if that fails, I plan on being either an electronics engineer (following my older brothers' footsteps), or network administrator.

There are lots of fields within "computer career". Programming, support, design, implementation, consulting, managing, security ...

Figure out what you like to do, then make it happen.
