Concepts: Endurance rally races and point-to-point street races

What about a huge rally race with tire wear, fuel issues, etc. that goes from a start to a finish instead of being on a track? Fuel and tires would be available at rest stops along the way (and if you fail to take advantage of them and run out of gas, well, it sucks to be you). In the same vein, hwo about similarly long point-to-point street races? Here are some concept courses:

Pikes Peak Full Length (rally)
El Paso to Juarez (street)
Key West to Miami (street)
Qandahar to Peshawar (rally) (no, there will be NO TERRORISTS on this course! It was chosen because it runs through some of the most inhospitable wilderness in the world)
Boston to Washington (street)
Paris to Berlin (street) (start at the Arc de Triomphe and end at the Brandenburg Gate)
Baja 1000 (rally) (get a BIG cup of coffee or B-spec it)

And, although this would be impossible even on the PS3 and would just be too much race for people (unless it was cut up into many sections that you race individually), I decided to throw this in anyway:
Cape Town to Cairo (rally)

its a pretty swell idea. do they run on what time you achieve or placing against other cars like in the rest of the GT's? also strategy should play a part, so that people flooring it have to stop more often, whereas the fuel conservative people are slower but come out on top at the end of it all

That would be awsome, i was extremly disapointed in GT4, and the way the did the rallies. If they can make it..well almost like the way colin mcrae or ralli sport challenge did it, then that would be somthing worth while.

The Dakar and long rallies are raced based on time just like regular rallies, everyone starts with a gap between each entrant, and the person to reach the finish in the least time wins. They don't set off together and race literally against each other, they're timed.

Great ide btw, I'd love to see long p2p races likee that. They'd have to be broken up into stages to work though, each service point would mark the end of a stage and be a save point.

Targa events would be nice, like Targa Tasmania or Targa New Zealand. Basicly, it's point to point rally races on sealed roads mostly through and round hills. Very fun to watch and no doubt very fun to do. It would also be cool to have a rally game style co-driver instead of the hud map. Rally sprints would be cool too.

Then the solution would be to race against several ghost cars.

I think it'd be best if it was the same as real, you head off a couple of mins after the guy infront and the guy behind heads off a couple of mins behind you ect, if he's runnng slow or crashes you'd catch him and see it or if you do the guy behind would catch you ect. That'd be cool. It's still based on the time it takes to complete the stage.

Something like a Targa _(insert place here)_ rally would be a great addition to GT5. Even something like the Cannonball run in the US.
A longer point-to-point rally, or better yet, rallies would also be great. Dakar, Baja, even WRC-esque stuff would be great, although tricky if damage is implemented for GT5. Of course, with these sort of rallies the physics would have to be sorted out properly. They weren't quite right for GT4.
