If you don't know what the Confederations Cup is its an eight team tournament held by FIFA for national teams held every four years, its contested by holders from each of the six regional championships (UEFA, CONMEBAL, CONCAFAF, CAF, AFC, OFC) along with the World Cup holders and the host nation bring the total to eight.

I completely forgot about the Confed Cup this year until 20 minutes into the first match!

The last one was a cracker, hopefully this one can follow suit. Just a bit disappointing that Germany are taking the young lads but it's to be expected.

Portugal 2-2 Mexico just finished, Quaresma with the first (with an assist from you know who), Hernandez equalised a few minutes later, then some late drama with what seemed to be Portugal's winner from Cedric was given via Video Assistance, but then Moreno got a very late equaliser in the 91st minute.

Cameroon v Chile tonight.

There were lots of empty seats for the game today, and even the Russia match wasn't sold out yesterday either.

There is just a general indifference to it in Russia, the only game that is completely sold out is Russia v Portugal.

Chile beat Cameroon 0-2 last night and its Australia v Germany tonight.

The final takes place tonight, its Germany v Chile in St Petersburg, Germany hammered Mexico in the semis whilst Chile needed a penalty shootout to beat Portugal, with Claudio Bravo saving three.....yes really!!

Congrats to Germany on winning the Confederations cup with a 1-0 win, Lars Stindl with the only goal coming around halfway through the first half, it was quite the feat considering that Germany left a lot of big names at home and only had three members of the World Cup winning squad.

Ireland qualifying for the World Cup would be considered a great achievement, while Germany accidentally win the Confed Cup. Such is football.
