For people like Code_kev and NissanRacer, I figured I'd talk about why I dislike the XBOX.

GTPlanet, I hope you can accept why I'm doing this, and that you can respect my honesty. I'm not expecting people to win me over or convince me I'm wrong. (1) One reason I dislike the XBOX is because the graphics look too much like a PC. I've called it a "hyped-up gaming rig embodied into a console." It's just too much like a PC if you ask me, and the controller is seemingly the XBOX's Sidewinder. I've played some XBOX games, but I've just haven't been a big fan of the system. (2) My next reason I dislike it is because of multiplayer. I know mutilplayer is hot right now, but the thing is, I don't want to keep hearing about XBOX Live-enabled games. XBOX Live is an option to me. I don't do multiplayer (more on that in the future), so I couldn't care less about having to pair up with people. I'd rather play a game where I can just play the game as best as I can and not have to worry about taking on others around the world. Plus, I don't work. So I can't pay for online services with money I "earn." I'd rather play a game that isn't reliant or heavily dependent on multiplay (examples: SOCOM 2 for PS2, Full Spectrum Warrior, Project Gotham Racing 2, Topspin...). (3) All in all, I think the XBOX is a PC in a console. Only thing is that you don't have a mouse. You'd might as well make PC games reverse-compatible with the XBOX. If I can play my shareware version of Wolfenstein (1992) on a console, I'm proud to have a machine to play PC games. But I like the PS2 more because I own one and I think it's not outdated. Basically, the XBOX isn't going to be on my Christmas wish list anytime soon. As much as NASCAR tries to be regarded as the NFL or NBA in America, I think the XBOX is trying to combine a PC into a regular gaming console.

I basically think that while it's a unique idea, I think that the XBOX can't decide on whether or not to be a console or a PC. While it's deciding, there are some nice XBOX games I wish the PS2 could handle, or at least be passable on the PS2. But, I never really been excited about the XBOX. So, I've honestly spoken my mind about the XBOX. If there's anything else I want to confess about, I'll be sure to do that in other forums with other threads. With that said, now you have an idea as to why I dislike the XBOX.

I don't have to confess it I can preach it. xbox sucks ass, they have ****ty games, ****ty graphics, ****ty controllers and there's no way in hell I'm giving more funds then I have to to those idiots.

So what its like a PC? Not everyone has the best and greatest PC. Its better than going and paying $500+ for a PC. Also how does it have "****ty" graphics? ****ty games? Please.

I've heard it's pretty close to one. Well, if you like arcadeish looking graphics I suppose it's not ****ty then. Well, lets see there's sega online, PGR (don't know what PGR2 is like because I haven't seen it) and all the other games I don't play.

I hate Xbox.............Its a gloryfied PC in a black and green box! That is not really that hard for Mircosoft to make!

PS2 was built from scratch.......Its not a computer, its a graphics machine......It was built purely for graphical performance which is innovative and is not the 're-package a PC' easy way out!

PS2 die hard fan forever!!!!!

Now thats a console!!!!

One reason I dislike the XBOX is because the graphics look too much like a PC. I've called it a "hyped-up gaming rig embodied into a console." It's just too much like a PC if you ask me, and the controller is seemingly the XBOX's Sidewinder. I've played some XBOX games, but I've just haven't been a big fan of the system.
That is the lamest excuse for disliking a console ever. An Xbox costs what, $300-400AU? A decent gaming rig that can handle the latest PC games costs at least $1500AU. It makes more sense to buy an Xbox and get the same, if not better results at a way cheaper price.

My next reason I dislike it is because of multiplayer. I know mutilplayer is hot right now, but the thing is, I don't want to keep hearing about XBOX Live-enabled games. XBOX Live is an option to me. I don't do multiplayer (more on that in the future), so I couldn't care less about having to pair up with people. Another completely stupid reason. Don't want a multiplayer game, don't buy it. Simple.

All in all, I think the XBOX is a PC in a console.
All in all, you haven't given any decent reasoning for why it sucks. You persume a PC is only for playing games. Do you see Word 2003 on Xbox? Do you see people browsing GTP on their Xbox? Do you see people writing applications on their Xbox? Do you see people checking their email on their Xbox? No. Why don't you actually find some decent justification for disliking a console before saying so.

Now, I bet you can't answer this without lieing. Would you be saying these completely obsurd things about the Xbox, if Gran Turismo was exclusive to the Xbox and Xbox only? No, you wouldn't. So, the Xbox is made by Microsoft (who have shotty business tactics and a buggy OS) and doesn't have Gran Turismo, so that automatically makes it a **** console? You people suck. The PS2 doesn't even support bump mapping, whereas the Xbox does. Oh, and memory cards suck...like rap music. A built in harddrive is a much better way to go (instead of having to pay extra just to save your games).

Robin, I hope you can see the irony of having "Beware....There are Xbox Fanboy's lurking among us in the Gran Turismo forum!" in your sig.

John, this is the crappest thing you have ever done. All this thread is gonna get, is a load of stupid arseholes telling us that "xbox sucks, and sony rulez", and they will just quote the crap you said and say how much they agree with you.

All I can say is John, your wrong, I own an xbox, and the games are superb, having a HDD is great, and being able to buy the best version of multiformat games is also nice. You obviously won't give anything not sony a chance, but that's your choice.

And vipfreak, you crack me up, you call all xbox games ****e, then when your shot down admit to having played about 3 xbox games ever :P. Great man, you should be a reviewer for a website, your unbiased attitude and your skill for reasoning should mean some cracking reviews, "Ninja Gaiden has crap graphics, because it's not on the ps2, I hate NG, S0NY RULEZ U XB0X N00BIES!"

VipFREAK
Well, if you like arcadeish looking graphics I suppose it's not ****ty then.

You mean if you like decent graphics, that aren't grainy & pixelated, its not ****ty then. ;)

PS2 was built from scratch.......Its not a computer, its a graphics machine......It was built purely for graphical performance which is innovative and is not the 're-package a PC' easy way out!

 the PS2 has next to no hardware graphics capabilities unless you count a 4mb VRAM GPU & 32MB of system memory haha, its practically a CPU in a box. Not a graphics machine. PS2's specs weren't impressive even when it came out, its a wonder how GT4 runs on the PS2 (Well it makes some compromises).

Now I'm not a great fan of the Xbox but you PS2 fanboys don't half crack me up

I have had PS and PS2 forever since they came out. I have always been very pleased with the PS2. About 5 months ago I borrowed an x-box and started playing online for a few months. Here is my opinion of the X-box:
Positive things:
-Halo will be sick
-I played Toca Race Driver 2 online and you can have 12 People online talking thru headsets the entire time. You also have car damage. This was the most fun I have had in a car game online ever. THis was awesome!!! however.....
Negative things:
Paying to be online just plain sucks!!!! There just arent enough fun games out there online for the x-box to make the online fee worth it. I have only found 1 car game that I liked online for the x-box and that was Toca 2.
I will try out Halo 2 when it comes out and if it isnt worth it then I wont pay for Xbox live any more.
Overall I just dont think its worth the price to play online!! 👎

When I was but a nipper, it was Master System vs NES, then as a teenager Megadrive vs Super Nintendo, then Saturn vs Playstation and after that Dreamcast vs PS2. I was always a Sega man myself and used to have arguments about how my Sega systems were far superior to the rest and that I would never by a Playstation or Super Nintendo. Well, I played Super Mario World and then had to eat my words when I went out and bought a Super Nintendo. Then I had a repeat of that again when I played GT1 and went out and bought a PS soon after. Same again for GT3 after being a Sega GT fan.

My point is, there's little point in criticising other consoles because in the end you'll always end up wishing you hadn't. Open your mind, John.

If your Xbox is near/could be placed near a PC or just connected to a hub/PC via network called you can use a program called Xbox Connect which allows you to play online for free. It fools the Xbox into thinking your playing other Xbox in a LAN when infact they might be hundreds of miles away connected over the internet through your PC :D

You can also play none online games that have LAN play such as Halo. PGR2 is quite fun online & I've heard RalliSport Challenge 2 is good online although I haven't tried yet.

I've heard RalliSport Challenge 2 s good online
Thats one of the games I own and played online. It is fun but most of the time people arent in there. I still have the borrowed x-box and I still pay online but just wish there were a lot more fun games online.
The biggest reason I dont like the Xbox is because you cant burn the games. :yuck:

"The biggest reason I dont like the Xbox is because you cant burn the games. "

So you don't like it because you can't pirate games as easily...need I say more lol#

£5 a month to get the best online service really isn't that bad imo. Then theres xbox connect :)

Well said chaser_fan, all the machines atm are good, no matter which you buy, they all have great games. I can't stand it when people talk utter crap about a machine when they obviously don't have a clue. :dunce:

Just wish they had more online games since were paying for it. But your right its not really that much a month. Its about $4.08 a month. Not bad at all. Thats why I am still paying for it. Im just waiting for Halo 2. :)
I am just saying I dont think the x-box has been worth buying yet. I borrowed this and I havent played it enought to even consider buying one.

You don't? SHEESSSHHH!!! Some people are never bloody happy, I got mine and throught it was a great purchase, loads of fun quality games.

mabey if I was introduced to more fun x-box games I might appreciate it more. I have 2 friends with x-box and they never even talk about them so most of the games I know about are PS2 since all my frineds play it. We have even linked up 4 playstation 2s to play Timesplitters 2 and Gran turismo 3.
I am extremely open minded so if you have a list I would love to check them out. I just added The chronicles of Riddick after reading someones review about it last night. Sounds like an excellent game!!

Ok, games that are out that own on the xbox (these are just off the top of my head) -

Knights of the old republic
Panzer orta
Ninja gaiden

time splitters 3 (once again, I wonder which console will have the best version)
tony hawks U 2

Theres more, but meh, I don't know every game ever :)

And yes, riddick is fantastic.

LOL ok now how about a list of your favorite X-Box games that you would recommend. You give the list and ill rent and try them. ;)

Just rent ninja gaiden and full spectrum warrior, 2 awesome games :)

Anything on the above list is good to, if ya like racing, ralli sport 2 is fantastic fun.

if you think the Xbox's graphics suck, rent or buy riddick, by far the most amasing texture graphics I have seen (including PC). also saying that the sony is a console and not a computer tell me S.C.E.A. stands for and then tell me that a Ps2 isnt a computer (not as much as the Xbox but still is a computer). also if you compare the graphics of two games on both consoles and you can still tell me that your ps2 looks better, you have some wires crossed in your brain. im not flaming the ps2 i still love my ps2 but i also love xbox

I sure dont think the graphics suck at all. X-box is better than PS2 when it comes to graphics and I love the PS2!

Hey, at one point or another, I had to confess to people why I disliked it. Someone asked me, and I replied for them.

Yeah I guess it's funny since it wasn't my xbox but my friend that was showing it to me when he got it. I wasn't impressed with anything.

Hmm... bottom line to me (even though it sounds cheezy to a non-gamer) xbox is for boys where PS2 is for men.

THUG is better on Xbox because it has slightly unoticeable graphics? Erm ok. THUG has online play for PS2 and its very fun, but its my opinion aginst yours with online VS slightly better graphics. I would not recomend a whole new system for the same games with sharper graphics.

Any way. I rented Full Spectrum and I was hoping for better graphics. They are not that great and the control and camera are bad. ITs fun but I always expect the best graphics from this machine.

John, you have your reasons for not liking Xbox but I dissagree on the wanna be PC thing. See ,M$ likes money so they restrict the system beyond reason, No real USB ports little major use for the HD (burning music is not that great a feature to me since i turn it off when i can). you have to pay extra for a remote to use a DVD drive thats already installed. No keyboard support, no FF wheels, M$'s own devices wont even work with it.

My biggest problem with XB is the 6 face button controller. The days of Street fighter are over. If I hadn't started renting games I would have sold it.

To me PS2 and Xbox are dead even as far system ratings. the faults offset.

T5-R PS2's specs were impressive if you think about it. not even the best PC graphics card then could deliver the graphics and frame rate. Remember those specs were first revealed in 1998.

My GF just rented Full Spectrum Warrior for me so when I get out of work ill try it out and reply tomorrow.

Well yeah I'd agree in that respect, but in 2000 or whenever it came out, they were that impressive. Atleast not compared to Sonys hype.

 that is quite possibly the funniest anti-Xbox statement I've ever heard.

It's comedy hour in the xbox forum!

Seriously, if your arguments are that the system has no good games, look at a games list. OXM has a complete listing of ALL xbox games released to date, all handily reviewed.

Look at the games list for PS2. Now tell me what the ratio of great games is to the xbox quotient. Hmmm... looks like aside from the fabulous japanese RPGS, there really isn't much to find there. I can cite the notables like MGS2, the GT series, SOCOM 1 and 2, DMC, Ico, and some other stragglers I can't remember.

What you will find at your local gameshop are shelves full of filler product; games you couldnt be bothered to rent, let alone OWN.

Besides, how many games do you own for your Ps2, on average? How many can you afford to buy? 30 or 40 tops, right? How much time do you have on your hands to actually sit down and play (and fully enjoy) all these games?

I currently own about 15 games on my ps2, many that were bargain bin impulse buys that have sat on my shelf since I got them. Hell, aside from GT3 and ZOE2, I play my GAMECUBE more often.

I have around 20 xbox games that I really enjoy and highly recommend, and there are many more that I want to purchase but don't have the funds to do so. Think about that.

Next argument, the price.

PS2 is priced the same as the xbox, at least around here. A system that is a year older, has no harddrive included, ethernet adapter sold separately, memory cards extra, and no games included, less processing power, 2 less controller ports, no dolby digital sound support in game, and hardly any HDTV support (the only games I can think of off the top of my head are SOCOM 2 and R&C 2). Oh, whats that? Who's greedy now, the company charging as much as the competitor for an inferior product or the one losing money on hardware sales? Xbox live: it costs 80 dollars for the starter kit here (roughly 50$ U.S.), which includes the headset, the activation code for one year, and a copy of mechassault to get you on your way. 50$ U.S. is the price of ONE game. For a year of xbox live, with great downloads and loads of online fun. I would gladly pay the price for the downloads alone, as I have already gotten plenty of maps for rainbow six 3, ghost recon island thunder, new missions for splinter cell, new cars and tracks for PGR2 (these cost 5$ U.S. extra), mechs and maps for mechassault, new content for KOTOR, and soon, the mother of all downloads, the Ninja Gaiden hurricane pack.

M$ costing more than PS2: bull****.

P.S. So John, am I correct when I interpret your "explanation" as follows: "I don't like the xbox because... I don't want to like it. I confess to being scared of PCs and the xbox is made by a software giant... therefore... it's a PC in a box. YEAH!"

That's like saying the PS2 is a discman trying to be a console, because it PLAYS CDS and it's designed and manufactured by Sony, who as you all know is a consumer electronics juggernaut!!! :dunce: Sorry, you just made an ass out of yourself for the sake of this thread.
