Confused about how to get cars initially??

I'm in the simulation mode on GT3 and I am wondering how i can get a car to enter in any races. It says i have no winnings so i figure i have to race. When i try to race it says i need a car but i have no money to purchase a car. Do i have to do something in the arcade mode? Help would be appreciated. Thanks.
 
Hey, welcome to GTPlanet. Have fun here and don't be afraid to ask questions!

You should have started sim mode with 16,000 credits. It should say in the bottom left corner of the sim screen: DAY 1 16,000 CR or some such. It should also be visible in your garage.

That's enough to buy a Miata, or a PT, or numerous other cars. I suggest a Miata, a Vitz, or a Trueno. Any of those will fit multiple races, and are fun to drive, and leave you some extra $$ for upgrades.

Good luck! ALSO: Check out the prize car lists at the top of this board. No sense in buying a car you can win right off anyway (Sunday Cup, Clubman Cup).
 
Yeah, you should have started with something like 16000 credits, which will allow you to buy a cheap car. Personally I bought the Mazda Miata/MX-5, though personally I would recommend you get the Toyota Trueno. It looks a bit old, but is a bigger and faster car than any of the other cars you can buy with your money.

Actually you start with 18,000 credits (that "winnings" number on the status screen is just a statistic to impress your friends with), and the most powerful car you can buy with that amount is the PT Cruiser. However that one is front-wheel drive and you won't have any cash left over for mods, so the Trueno might be a better choice for starting out.

I have 0 credits and absolutely nothing in the garage so i could not have possibly spent it on anything. Is my game a lemon :(
 
I am on the super license thing right now and it would suck to start the game over......Maybe i should call the manufacturer or something and ask them why i have no credits...maybe its something i did...no clue though. Any help on why this is occuring would be helpful though. Thanks again.
 
Well okay, try this... just take the memory card out (while the PS2 is off, of course) and start up a new game, and see if you have any starting credits then. If you don't, then I guess something is wrong with your copy, but you should still be able to get a new one as long as it's under warranty.
 
Hey, thanks man....that worked...i took it out...And it said i had 18000 credits..so i put the memory card in and loaded it from the main screen instead of auto loading it when it started up so now i have all my progress and credit. Thanks again.
 
I started with 18000 Cr and the Trueno is one of the best cars to start with because it gives you a few extra Cr after you buy it to put in a mod or 2
