Confused as to how "New Post" works with threads

When a popular thread comes up on the main forum page I click on it (if I want) and it takes me to what it thinks is the latest unread post I believe.

I will have to use last nights examples for this. The "Modern Warfare 2 thread" and the "Funny Pic Thread". I had gone through the unread posts in both of them before I posted, I clicked onto the next page (even more new posts) and after reading them I posted something. When people replied in both of them I opened them in new tabs via the main forum page as they were the latest posts in their category. When I click on the MW2 thread it took me back 3 pages where I had started reading "New Posts" beforehand. 3 replies later and the same thing is happening, it kicks me back 3 pages. This is even more annoying with the Funny Pic thread because there is more content to load and I dont really want to load it again If I have seen it.

I know that I can go into the sub forum and press last page but that gets annoying sometimes. I just want to know if I am misunderstanding how it is supposed to work, or if that is how its supposed to be. Thanks.

I doubt it's normally but it does that to me a lot also.

It sounds like you're viewing a an older, cached version of the forum home page in your browser. Is the new version of the page (the one which shows the latest post on the new thread) accurate? If you refresh the forum home page before you click on the most recent link, does it take you to the correct post?

The home page is definately not a cache, thats for sure. The latest post is correct, it will say what ever time, in todays case it is 4:07pm.

I just tried something though, when I was in the thread and I hit refresh it cleared all of the new post icons. This should mean that if someone posts a new post it will go to that one, hmm. Its works in a weird way, refreshing the page just seems to do it.
