Connecting my ps3 to the internet....again

Hello everyone

Basically I brought a ps3 a few months ago while at uni and setting up a ps network account on the wireless in my student digs was quite straightforward

Well....i'm home now and instead of wireless we have ntl broadband and it's proving a lot harder to connect online, so i was wondering if someone could help me

This is what I have----

ntl/virgin broadband, this comprises of a modem box with a usb and an ethernet port in it, as well as a cord leading to another white ntl box nailed into the wall

What I am doing is plugging my ps3 into the modem via the ethernet cable- it finds the connection, i set all the options (usually just default) and then it does the connection test

However it always fails when it comes to testing the connection and as im not the most technologically gifted person i'm already out of ideas

Does anyone have any help as to why it's not working?

Thanks for any help

Carlos

I'm also with Virgin/NTL and I think the problem you may have is that your PS3 doesn't like the direct connection through the modem.

I have my cable modem connected to a wireless DSL router and then connect using wireless, a cable router costs around about £35-£40 (or less I got a shop demo Belkin one from PC World for £25, a bit this this one) and the connection to my PS3 was easy.

Thanks for that!!

So basically, once i buy the dsl wireless router, all i have to do is plug it into the back of the modem using the ethernet cable and the ps3 should pick up the wireless output?

How difficult is a wireless router to set up, as i have a frustratingly poor grasp of things like this

Most are very easy, with 'plug and play' screens to help you out. You may need to check with Virgin in regard to a few of the specific settings, but they (from my own experience) have always been very helpful. Mine took about 20 minutes to set-up and get my PS3 connected.
